Thanks for the info. While it seems this may be an odd occurance, there also may be some similarities. I am starting a break from the irinotecan this week. the previous schedule suggests that at the end of this week my fentanyl patch may need some assist wtih my po dilaudid. I guess we'll just have ...

Pain with Irinotecan (details and question towards the end)

Greetings all. It’s been a long time since I’ve posted. I have a specific question, but I’d also like to give you a brief update on my situation. There are a lot of details surrounding my current cancer treatment. I’ve still got some active cancer cells in a few lymph nodes floating around my mesent...

love in the time of cancer

Bravo I say!!! During one of my trips in for surgery I met a few wonderfully attractive female surgeons that I should have at least taken the time to flirt with, but when you’re flicking that PCA button for morphine like it’s tv remote, you loose all ability to put together a witty and flirtatious i...

post chemo depression

I wish I could offer you a fix, but there are better people out there suited for that. What I can offer is a little support, which may go a long way towards a fix. As you’ve seen, you’re not alone. Many of us have gone through depression following chemo. Personally I’ve done this three times already...

Dating

Helen, There is just so much to say here that I don’t even know where to start. I too am single, and have been all through my cancer dance. I was first diagnosed when I was 35, almost 3 years ago. I’ve dated, I guess you can call it, a few times since then, but it is not easy. NOT easy. There are so...

Pet Scan

You can think of the difference between CAT and PET scans as the difference between a still picture and video. A CAT scan takes a still image that will show you differences in size and shape of things. This is the primary diagnostic tool for finding tumors. A PET scan shows activity within the masse...

working and fighting

The company I work for has been wonderfully supportive throughout my cancer. They have allowed me to work from home when I was physically unable to make it into my office. It is also a blessing that my particular function allows for this sort of arrangement. I conceder myself very lucky in this resp...

chemo is over i feel naked!

As with a lot of other things around here, you’ve run into another common, yet rarely discussed issue. The period after treatment and before any sort of real talk of remission is very difficult. It strikes us, I think, a little harder because of our age. There are few support structures available to...

If you have an American Express card, you can help

American Express is having a contest where they will fund a social project which members have submitted. I’ve proposed a project concerning support and research for young adults with cancer. If you have a card, you can register to be a part of the Members Project. After you register, RATE my project...

what to do, what to do

I have to agree that the most important things to get you through chemo are a great attitude and good support. I try to be pleasant and positive every time I go. I make jokes, flirt with the nurses, and try to have good conversations with my oncologist. But, you also need to be a realist. Chemo suck...

what to bring

I’ll be starting my 4th or 5th (hell if I can remember) chemo in a week or two, and here is what I know. Hmmm…..let’s see here…. What to bring to chemo? Well first off, bring a sense of humor! I’ve found laughing to be a big help with cancer. I recommend bringing someone with you. Preferably someone...

numbness

Of course everyone is different, but I did experience numbness with Oxaliplatin. It did get pretty bad while I was on it, but it only took a month or two after I stopped for most of it to go away. I sometimes have residual tingling in my feet, about a year later now, but it's not anywhere near as ba...

stage IV

Noonie, I was diagnosed stage IV in September of 2004, I was 35. I'm still here! I won't tell you it is easy, because it's not. I have been through several surgeries and a few rounds of chemo, and I'm still not done. BUT, the thing is, I'm still here. I've drawn a lot of strength from the people at ...
