Re: He's ready to go - my sweetheart

You've already proven what a strong woman you are. Unfortunately it's going to take even more strength to get through this stage as well. May the memories you have created and will create sustain you for the years to come.

Re: At that point: clinical trial or hospice

Haven't been reading lately. Was so saddened to see your post. It's hard to make the shift from aggressively seeking/getting treatment to just letting things take their course. Give him some hugs and the words you want him to take with him on this leg of the journey and get some words for yourself a...

Re: Help with SSDI

What's crappy is that the date of disability starts the first day of the month after you've been found disabled. As a result, either call in for an application or start it online before August 1, 2014 and allege a date of disability in July or earlier. Working 30 hours a week isn't necessarily the m...

Re: About to file for SSDI, coming to terms with what is ahe

There's a 5 month waiting period before SSDI kicks in. As a result, it's important to allege an onset date that's accurate. If you really haven't been working for the last 5 months because you've been out sick more than at work, allege that as your onset date despite the fact that you were at work. ...

Re: No more oxaliplatin for me - now what?

Belle, I'm glad it happened to you this Spring, because I think there are a few immunotherapy trials out there that might be available and easier on you than oxi. My husband went through the same thing and it was scary to watch. I don't know whether there's a desensitization process that could help ...

Re: lymp nodes to close celiac artery and inferior vena cava

I almost didn't answer you because I didn't want you to see that my husband died last summer. However, he had a very good response to folfox and avastin with celiac lymph node involvement. It didn't last, but it worked for a while. I recommend that he go to a major cancer center like MD Anderson or ...

Re: Question on Early IRA Withdrawl

Stage IV will get you SSDI quickly (compassionate allowance) but not if you're "engaging in substantial gainful activity" which generally means making more than around $1100 a month.

Re: acute renal failure - SECOND TIME!

Dianne,
Eli hit that almost kidney shutdown when he tried to go back on folfox. It's a scary thing but he recovered, too, and went on to some more limited chemo and a clinical trial. My thoughts are with you.

Re: too many mouth washes - which for what?

Actually, my husband never did the salt thing. He swished biotene every day twice a day and it really helped to prevent mouth sores. Don't know if it's really for getting rid of them, though.
