the vats is a two step procedure with the radiologist placing a target for the surgeon to see where to cut a wedge; it's pretty minimally invasive, and if the target doesnt move, they"ll get the gowth for tests My doc missed because the target moved, but he guessed and got lucky(?) 2 days in the hosp...

"I'm sorry..

yeah, it's not unlike "how are You...?" from all the folks who know you have cancer. I have taken to inventing my responses, Like; "compared to
what?, or "I'm still responding to external stimuli.."

Anybody have a new and original response to contribute?

I've been on (and off)Avastin/Erbitux, then Avistan/Panitumumab for the past six months. "dries up" is an apt description for these drugs; I get the bloody noses, extremely dry & easily bruised skin, and rash on chest, back face, etc. Presently on a vacation from both Avasti/P-Mab, and will rest...

everything has been said, and it doesn't change the way you feel about getting the colostomy...though I was sure my life was over, etc. it turned out to be the very least of my worries. The alternative is simply out of the question when you have such a simple life-saving procedure available to you. ...

colonoscopy

although the procedure can be a little bit more difficult for women-(more plumbing down there..) I've done it several times w/o any kind of sedative, and know several women who have done it without also..
In my case, it was absolutely pain and discomfort free; I watched it all on
the TV screen.

Stages

So far as U know, staging has little to do with time; it is simply a way for the professionals to determine the development of the cancer.

Question

I was just wondering if it's just the way I'm wired, or does anyone else have trouble reading a post in all caps?

I don't understand..it is my understanding that you have an anal tumor, that is too close for sphinctor saving procedures, therefore removal of a portion of the sigmoid colon and colostomy is a given..unless you choose to leave the tumor in there for a whie and watch and wait. If that's the only tum...

I'm not familiar with the surgery, but would definitely trust MDA..you can likely find details about the doctor, and the surgery by going to the MDA site. Once you get to the site, you should be able to search the Dr and surgery by name. I think it is www.mdanderson.com

"Mad As Hell", Edward, Candace..thanks for your enlightened responses. We-(cancer survivors) represent 10 million people and that number is growing, not shrinking, as some might lead you to believe. I am stage IV and terminal, but have been aware of the monster for over 30 years, because I lost my 1...

I believe the difference can be summed up with "for profit" and "non-profit".. You will find more attention to the patient with the latter. If they are for profit, that is the driving force. The non-profit cente will have a more patient oriented approach, and no pressure from administrators to gener...
