Re: O/T further adventures of BrownBagger

Thanks, all. It's been a very busy past couple of months. It started in Pennsylvania (work) then on to Manhattan (medical) then up to Maine (work), then to Wisconsin (work/family), immediately followed by a week on the road to and from Sweden. The garden is looking great--among the best ever. A nice...

Re: O/T... BrownBagger's latest toy !

Thanks, CRG for posting that. I've been too busy for the past week. He's right, this is what I do for fun. The trade association I work for puts on an annual equipment exposition, and I'm in charge of the freight handling. This is one of the five machines (the one I use, since I'm the boss) that we ...

Re: Painful sex after surgery and radiation? Anyone else suffer with this?

I had pain during sex during radiation treatments. So much pain that I had a vocal response--unusual for me. My wife said, "It's good to see you expressing your pleasure verbally for a change." I'm like, "It's pain, not pleasure." And then......she didn't want to do it anymore. I...

All the best to Pete as he nears the end of his journey. Guy has (had) some balls and determination. I always admired that.

Re: How to fight fatigue caused by Xeloda?

I found that once I broke through the "I don't want to do this" barrier that all exercisers feel at first, I had plenty of energy on Xeloda and was able to carry on with an active life. 136 rounds later, I'm still on my feet, but obviously, less blessed with energy. But I do what I can. Ju...

Re: Medical expenses - tax deduction question

Isn't Cynthia right though - can't we just deduct amounts that exceed 7.5% of our total income for the year? It's now 10% I believe and while some things can be directly deducted, some, like the hotel charge and meals, are subject to IRS finagling. I just sort out all the receipts, write down the t...

Re: Medical expenses - tax deduction question

I hope everything is OK with your son!

I have $20K in dental bills to throw on the medical bill pile this tax year, plus my copay out of pocket, which maxed out early at $6K.

Re: Medical expenses - tax deduction question

But remember, you may only deduct those amounts that exceed 7.5% of your total income for the year. It's up to 10% this year, but I've got that blown away by 4 or 5x. Big box of receipts and other documentation on top of the fridge waiting to get sorted out. My accountant told me that the current m...

Re: Medical expenses - tax deduction question

Yes you can deduct some of you hotel expenses. Also you can deduct a percentage of you food, gas, parking, airfare ect. Anything related to you medical visit. Keep all your food and gas receipts, they add up much more than what you think they would. Also the mileage you travel each time you go for ...

Good luck with the systemic chemo, DK. The HAI pump, if you can get on it, has proven to be pretty effective.

Re: Going for It

I'm going to Jonkoping for a forestry fair. I've been there before for that same event, and it was quite beautiful. I was up in Umea once in the winter, and then traveled farther north. Good thing for saunas!

I have to say, Sweden is the most civilized country I've been to. Finland is close behind

Re: Paranoid!! Please read :(

You need to talk to a doctor, not an online forum. Nobody here is qualified to diagnose anything. The only way to definitively rule out colon cancer is with a colonoscopy. If your sigmoidoscopy came up clear, then you've probably ruled out rectal cancer. But a routine colonoscopy will determine the ...

Re: Going for It

The HAI pump has "cured" a good number of people on this board, Mike. They don't all post anymore, but it's an impressive number. Just ask Juliej, among others. If Kemeny gets her hands on your case, you'll probably live a good long time. Getting your head straightened out after dx is toug...

Love your attitude, Deb. Identical to mine: Live your life like you don't have Stage 4 cancer.

I bet that's one of the reasons we're both still here.
