HNPCC Results - Official now, over and done with! Yay!

Hello all, A quick update - I have not posted here in awhile, but I **finally** got my HNPCC results just last week - after the Southern Blot part of the test was completed. The results were indeed NEGATIVE! We will not pursue the other genetic test for HNPCC (the newer component that Holly mentione...

Thanks!

Thanks for the replies and thanks Holly, I will take your suggestion and call Myriad to be sure that the "new" sample is adequate. Please know that this re-test (to *complete* the HNPCC test) is at NO COST at all to us. My husband and I would not be coughing up any addl. money for this "foul up" as ...

Thank you

Thanks Tandys, I had the appt and he wants to repeat this test, which I'm "doing" today. Made sure that I am not eating/intaking any foods or medications that could foul up the results. When we did the test 2 weeks ago, I knew what foods to avoid, but I didn't know about caffeine... and I know that ...

Double-Whammy Day Today - Results x2

Hi everyone, Gripe/Worry #1: On Friday I had posted that my CC gene test for HNPCC came back negative. Today I got my Patient Report and in fact, the test WAS NOT COMPLETED. So heck yeah, "no mutation detected," because the d*mn test was NOT complete! I was nearly spitting nails this morning. And pr...

HNPCC Results - NEG! Am I relieved, or still have ???

HI everyone, Today, 2 months after the blood draw for HNPCC, I finally got the results. NEGATIVE, evidently "no mutation found." I do not have the actual report from Myriad in-hand, but I'll get that on Monday. I didn't actually speak to the ordering doctor today (he is not a GI doctor, but is an on...

What good news, Nodo! I live in NW Missouri but my doctor "stuff" is all in the KC metro area. Would you mind pm-ing me with your GI doctor(s) names? My latest colonoscopy (on 1/12, at St. Luke's Northland) showed microscopic ("lymphocytic") colitis - which seems to be my ongoing problem - my GI is ...

Denial Letter for HNPCC Test from Insurance Co.

Hi again, I got the official denial letter today from Coventry, from the "Medical Director." They have deemed that the genetic HNPCC test "is not medically necessary" for me, with the principal reason for the denial being: "It appears that only two relatives have HNPCC-associated colorectal cancer; ...

Good news, bad news, good news & good news!

HI everyone, Good news: My scope this morning went great, no polyps, no problems. This does not explain my continuing hideous daily diarrhea, but the doc took some tissue samples, which will likely show the microscopic colitis that has shown before. He's going to do some "other" tests (blood/urine?)...

Trying a new prep, tomorrow!

Hi everyone, Tomorrow is my prep day, for my scope on Friday 1/12. As my husband pointed out, at least it's not "Friday the 13th", haha. This time I have a new pill prep, well, "new" to me anyway. I've had the Visicol the past two times, and one of those times I think I also had to use "Dulcolax", w...

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Marie. I had not heard/read of the terms "right colon" or "left colon" until I started delving into this genetic and HNPCC stuff. I knew only the "ascending", etc terminology. And knowing how screwy (and/or complicated) things can be in the medical world, I thought I would be be...

Dumb Question - Right side of colon vs. left side?

Hi everyone, Please help me with this surely simple question. In some information I've been reading about HNPCC, they use the terms "right side" and "left side" (of the colon).. is this the same as "ascending" and "descending?" - meaning that ascending = right side and that descending = left side? J...

I had my second of 8 scopes three days after a dose of chemo,it has given me mystical abilities. Any prep you wish to give me ,I can projectile vomit it thru the eye of a needle at 50 paces. Oh Ron that is hysterical, and sadly true I am sure. But your way of vividly describing it made me laugh. My...

Thank you all so much for the replies and thoughts. And thank you Holly, for the email information! Excellent! Paula, good point about "other" body systems that might need a closer eye on them in the future... makes sense. And of course if I *did* test positive, we would definitely want my sister to...
