Are you taking Imodium to slow down the diarrhea? It certainly helped me through the treatment last November. Don’t let yourself become dehydrated from all the diarrhea.

Hang in there,

Lisa, Don’t worry about the side effects to much right now, be prepared, but don’t worry, side effects can be different for us all. I was dx 10-5-06 at 46 years old, with a rectal mass that was closing off my colon, invading into the muscles. My primary doctor wanted me to have it removed ASAP, leav...

The oncology building and the sports rehab building where I’ve been getting some of my treatment share a central parking lot. One morning this past fall, while walking up to the oncology building for my daily dose of radiation, another fellow who arrived about the same time, was walking beside me, h...

Thanks Eitter, I’ll cross off the donut, and add the heating pad to my list of must haves. Now I usually take showers, I don’t have time for baths, however I must admit, yesterday while it was quite around here, I slid into my wife’s big old bathtub…. Oh baby! I’m talking about a painless state of e...

Thanks, Me Mates from across the pond, That’s a welcome response; I just needed to know this pain is normal (and I’m a big sissy). It will be a lot easier to deal with that way. I’ve tried to get the good wife to kiss it, to make it feel better, but with little luck. That was wonderful, ask a questi...

Ouch!

I had a (LAR) preformed just over two weeks ago. They removed 6inches of colon right at the rectum, maybe some of the rectum to. I didn’t get an ostomy. The problem is that I can’t even think of sitting down, without eating a couple of vicodin, all I can do is walk around or lay down. Can someone gi...

Jess,
Print your first post and take it to your doctor, if he doesn’t order a colonoscopy, go to a different doctor.

Good Luck,

Re: Rectal Cancer Adjuvant Therapy

Does anyone know any specifics about getting radiation and/or chemo prior to surgery in rectal cancer? I had read that in larger tumors, you should radiate first to shrink it. I don't know how it's done elsewhere, but here in Tampa at the Moffit Cancer Center, Chemo-radiation prior to surgery, unle...

WTD, I just turned 47 two weeks ago. I finished my 6weeks of chemo-radiation December 8th for rectal cancer; at this point everything works just fine, no difference at all. I still have surgery ahead, so im hoping my surgeon has a steady hand. Quality of life is important to my wife and I also. Good...
