Re: Scanxiety: Anyone else having testing now?

CT/ MRI Cancelled! My CEA dropped over 50%, well into the normal range, and my cholesterol all dropped, too. My TSH had shown hypothyroidism and my scans 5 months ago were all clear. I've been on thyroid meds since the test in November and studies have shown that hypothyroidism is a well known caus...

Re: CEA and infections (not cancer)

YES! My CEA was 5.8 six months ago and had been in the 3.4 range for quite a while, like 9 years. I asked to have my thyroid checked because hypothyroidism elevates CEA. I was right and with 5 months of treatment, my CEA dropped to 2.8. The endo said it can take 4 to 9 months to get the CEA to what ...

Re: Scanxiety: Anyone else having testing now?

I have my CEA done every 6 months and CT/ MRI for 9 years. We were going to skip the scans last time because it's been 6 years since my liver resection but my CEA was slightly elevated. Scans were clear. Studies show that 5 years is a good time for COLON but rectal should be followed for up to 10 ye...

Re: Scanxiety: Anyone else having testing now?

I've been doing this for 9 years now. One would think I could relax and I was doing very well even had overcome 90% of my test anxiety until my CEA went up six months ago. I hate to even share my numbers because my onc says 'Maybe you're just one of those people who always have a high CEA' ... and i...

Re: Scanxiety: Anyone else having testing now?

I’m looking at my results right now. “A single, 1cm peripheral density which may be a stalked polyp in the area of resection. Correlation is advised” I have no clue what that might mean :( That's big word speak for 'I think I see something so I'm covering my butt and putting it back on the gastro t...

Re: Scanxiety: Anyone else having testing now?

People who've never gone through cancer cannot begin to understand how a number or scan can terrorize us! Praying you get only awesome results. As an aside, chemo can cause damage to the vaginal walls and cervix. REPLENS (OTC at Walmart) has been proven by some pretty impressive studies to be as eff...

Scanxiety: Anyone else having testing now?

Tomorrow, March 28th is my every 6 month blood work for tumor markers. It was slightly elevated in the fall but was low enough that it could have been from a sinus infection or hypothyroid (just discovered). The next week is my CT/ MRI, on Tuesday April 3rd. I've been so blessed to have been cancer ...

Re: spots on liver on CT scan

Most well known hospitals will not recommend needle biopsies on the liver due to possible 'seeding'. I refused a biopsy, had a PET Scan and then surgery with no chemo afterwards. That was 6 years ago in April.

Was the uterus CRC cells?

I would HIGHLY recommend you have the MRI.

Re: KRAS Mutation- any one long term NED?

There are several thoughts on KRAS mutations. One is that it causes cell apoptosis, which means faulty cells commit suicide before they can clump together and cause new tumors. I was NED from 2009 (Stage III with resection and 12 tx FOLFOX) to 2012 when I had a tiny liver met (removed with no chemo ...

Have you had your thyroid checked? There are many medical articles online about hypothroid and elevated CEA.

Re: Any Stage IV currently in NEDville? Please share any advice or tips? P

I was Stage III in Jan. 2009 and became Stage IVa when a small met was found on my liver in Feb. 2012. I had a liver resection that April, six years ago, and scans have been clear. This past November my CEA was 4.3 and 5.8. I was very sick at the time with a 10 week old sinus infection. I did some r...

Re: CEA Update

Have you ever had your thyroid checked? There are many medical papers that say hypothyroid or other thyroid conditions can elevate CEA, even if benign.

Best of luck!
