Re: Failed prep (hubby) could this be sign of CRC?

The two day prep worked and they only found a pea sized polyp that doc feels 100% positive is benign.

At our age, he'll do a FOB smear in 5 years and no more colonoscopies unless the smear shows blood. Jim will be 76 in August.

Failed prep (hubby) could this be sign of CRC?

Hubby did his prep with Miralax and laxative pills which seemed to go fine. However, Dr. couldn't do anything at his colonoscopy today, saying 98% of his colon was not cleared. Jim is terrified that he has CRC. He's had problems with constipation since his extensive prostate cancer surgery 2 1/2 yea...

CURED STAGE IV / 11 years on April 11th

PRAISE GOD, I had 80% of my liver removed for Stage IV colon cancer on April 11, 2012. The doctor got all the cancer and no lymph nodes were involved. I have been cured by the grace of our Heavenly Father, healer Jehovah Rapha for 11 years today! My first cancer was removed Jan. 7th, 2009. I am than...

Re: Solitary lymph node metastasis: treatment options

May I remind you that oncologists are trained to treat cancers with chemo (poisons) and surgeons remove said cancer. Surgery is the gold standard for cure. A spread four years out is a good sign. I'd suggest the cells were there at your Stage III dx but that your cancer sounds like a very slow growi...

Re: Scary - shaking may be activity tremors from 5FU cerebellar damage.

My chemo side effects remain and some got worse a year or so after chemo ended. I have 'tactile allodynia' in my lower legs. I had a period of time where my toes would curl under but that has stopped. I also have tremors in my left hand. I have Chronic Disease PTSD, which has been treated now for 11...

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

Daryl Strawberry had colon cancer which spread to his kidney way back in 1998 AND 2000. In 1998, Strawberry was diagnosed with colon cancer and had surgery to remove 24 inches of his colon. When doctors learned the cancer had spread to a nearby lymph node, he underwent chemotherapy, returning to the...

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

I began this thread in 2009 when I was Stage III. Three years later I had a dime sized liver met and 80% of my liver removed. In late 2018 my onc discharged me as cured. I'm doing very well. I go months without thinking about cancer. This is my first time to have a colonoscopy after a 5 year 'wait' ...

Re: I stand up to use the word cure(d)....

My oncologist told me I was cured a couple of years ago. I'm 8 1/2 years out from my liver resection and was discharged from his care. I'll still have my CEA done yearly for a few years. It's been just under 12 years since my original (Stage III for 3 years) dx. I'll be 70 this December and on Oct. ...

Re: Help with bowels

Once my bm's were regular, I decreased Miralax to 1/2 cap a day due to messy bms.

Re: My recent significant CEA jump.

Benign polyps AND stomach ulcers (from the Excedrin) can cause elevated CEA's as can hypothyroid and Biotin found in vitamins. I had a slightly elevated CEA with bad sinus infections and walking pneumonia. BTW....... MRI's for abdome/ CT for lungs, etc. Bev who died last year from diabetes had a ver...

Re: Does CEA fluctuate in healthy individuals

Even vitamins can elevate a CEA. Biotin, found in vitamins and pills sold for hair and nails can cause false positives.

Hypothyroidism causes elevated CEA's. Mine has never been the same 2 readings in a row.

7 1/2 years post Stage IV liver resection

I finally got my CEA results and it remains well within normal range 7 1/2 years after 80% of my liver was removed (Stage IVa) and almost 11 years since my original diagnosis (Stage III). I see the oncologist for my final time tomorrow morning and will be discharged as 'cured'. After the first year,...

Re: Help with bowels

Gastro told me to take 1 full cap of Miralax daily until I had a large BM and then lower dosage to 1/2 cap to see if that would keep me regular. Studies of long term use of Miralax shows no concerns. I've been doing it for about 2 years now and haven't had any more concerns. I put it in my first cup...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectal cancer

Low thyroid can cause false elevated CEA so might want to work on that, too.

Best of luck,
Diane
