Re: 2nd year caregiver jitters-CAREGIVERS ONLY

CLD, what you are doing is quite normal, IMHO. My husband had stage 4 cancer twice, once in his 20's and then the colon cancer that killed him when he was 59. I still remember the high anxiety we both had the first 2 or 3 years after he finished treatment with his first cancer, Hodgkin's disease. At...

Re: Stage I to NED to Stage IV in less than a year

MsOgden, so sorry that you are going through this. Your situation sounds strange to me. Are they sure that this is cancer and not related somehow to your h pylori? It seems strange that your CEA is normal with cancer in your liver. Liver involvement seems to be one of the things that causes CEA to r...

MMR deficiency and Response to PD1

Has this been discussed on the forum: http://www.clinicaloncology.com/ViewArticle.aspx?ses=ogst&d=Solid+Tumors&d_id=148&i=October+2015&i_id=1236&a_id=34013 It is rather bittersweet for me since very possibly Jake would have responded well to this drug since he had signet ring cel...

Re: Tellin the grandchildren "good-bye"

I am so very sorry. I know how gut-wrenching this is. My grandkids didn't get to say good-bye because my husband died more quickly than any of us expected. They still miss him after 3 years.

Re: Advice for hospice

I am so sorry, H, that your mother and the family are going through all of this. I experienced hospice for my husband almost 3 years ago. One thing I learned quickly was that hospice is primarily an advisory group. The family is responsible for 90% of the care. In two weeks of my husband being paral...

Re: How to Bring a piece of heaven to hell...?

Pukalania, one thing that I don't think many people plan well enough for is to have sufficient people available to help at home. Hospice is primarily just an advisory group telling YOU what needs to be done for your loved one. They do very little hands on care so you or someone else is going to have...

Re: NEW THREAD FOR LOVED ONES LEFT BEHIND ONGOING

I feel like I could have written most of the last several posts. It has been two and a half years for me and am still going through so many adjustments. I am also at the point of trying to figure out what path moving forward is going to be--solo or in tandem. I am so torn with that one. Part of me w...

Re: DH possibly not letting himself realize how seriously ill he is .. Help?

I was sharing with a friend about this discussion. Her son-in-law lost his mom to cancer when he was a senior in high school. He has shared with my friend that he was so hurt that no one, including his mother, shared with him that she was dying. He feels that he had no closure and it is a wound for ...

So glad to hear that, Canadiandaughter. Sounds like you are all aware of your parents' needs. That is wonderful!

Re: Invisible Caregiver...

In my mind being told to "take care of myself" is just one more overwhelming task that I have to add to my already overburdened life. What I think would be more helpful is if there were those in place to take care of the caregiver. That should be one of the questions asked of families of t...

Re: Invisible Caregiver...

Canadiandaughter, I would watch your mom carefully and, if possible, relieve her burden as much as possible. I knew 3 women who were caregivers for their husbands when they were in their 60's and 70's. All three of them went into severe and permanent dementia within a year or two of their husbands' ...

Re: DH possibly not letting himself realize how seriously ill he is .. Help?

Regan, I am so sorry that you are going through this. You sound very much like I am, you need to have a plan of action in place to help you look at the future without complete terror and despair. I can share with you the course of events with my husband in hopes that it will help a little but I don'...

Re: Invisible Caregiver...

Yes, we caregivers are invisible--to everyone. I have been the only caregiver to my husband twice and my father once as they went through cancer treatments. The first time I was 22 and pregnant with our only child when my husband was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease. I took care of him and had our b...
