Re: transanal surgery

I was diagnosed in 2010 with a 4 cm polyploid mass in my rectum via colonoscopy. My second opinion Board Certified Colorectal surgeon scheduled a transatlanal excision for better pathology. 1st opinion dr said I had a T3 tumor using ultrasound. More pathology sounded good to me. Long story short, Bo...

Re: O/T...Sort Of...Things Come In 4's - Appendiceal (Appendix) Cancer - Not Me

Not cancer but spent most of a year talking to Drs about abdominal issues including pain, but not extreme pain. Finally, a surgeon ordered an ultrasound and scheduled gallbladder removal AND an appendectomy. Not only was my gallbladder toast, but path showed I had acute appendicitis! So thankful sur...

Re: New and husband just diagnosed

My story is a bit different ...woke up from the colonoscopy with the GI telling us I had rectal cancer. Next step was a rectal ultrasound (EUS). Was awake for that. The GI wasn't paying attention the entire time... he diagnosed me with a T3 tumor. Our next step was a second opinion with a Board Cert...

Re: PET/CT combo questions?

I have always had PET/CT. Always had the glucose tracer and never had the contrast stuff. After the scans, I always walked out with the CD and my surgeon always has contacted me within 24 hrs

Re: Approaching the End...

Please just talk with the hospice people. They will be able to answer all your questions. Too many times, people wait too long to bring in hospice. Again, please just talk with them and make a truly informed decision, as hard as that might be. My husband and I have gone through this process with all...

Re: Big Decision

Andrea, What you want is 100% guarantee and that won't happen. You are unbelievably fortunate to have found your cancer this early. Almost 6 years down the road from my unbelievable outcome, I have learned to relax and be thankful. One of my daughter's, 19 at the time, diagnosed herself with Prostat...

Re: Diarrhea is back and more pain

DE, When I had my very first colonoscopy, which is when my rectal tumor was found, my GI was trying to find out why I had constant bowel issues. He took numerous biopsies to rule things out such as celiac disease. If you are having a colonoscopy anyway, have them do a biopsy for celiac. The blood te...

Re: Withering away without help

You don't have long to wait until your scope and your questions will be answered. Again, I would say to stay off the internet! A few years ago, one of my daughters called me in a panic. She was sick and had googled her symptoms. She was convinced, and got very angry with me, that she had prostate ca...

Re: First Colonoscopy/Endoscopy - How long for biopsy results?

I've found it depends on the Dr. My first colonoscopy, where they found the tumor, pathology took a week. My surgeon, on the other hand, calls me personally within 48 hours. I like my surgeon better.

Hey CR Guy!! One of my bestest friends has been battling breast cancer for 16 years. He's male and it's more common than you think. Chuck had 12 years of remission, but when it came back, it was everywhere. He's on Hospice but doing OK considering it's in his chest wall, hip, sacrum and lungs. Men D...

Re: POLL: How many polyps did you have at your first post-diagnosis colonoscopy?

I had 2 very small (less than 1 mm) polyps at my one year colonoscopy. Both benign. My surgeon explained that the orig GI doc didn't see them after finding the 4 cm rectal mass. Been clear every year since (4).
