Lifes2Short update

Joe here - Just wanted everyone to know that Lynn has decided to end chemo. She's gone beyond curative efforts and has moved to hospice care, in our home. The doctors and nurses of the hospice team are trying to manage her pain and provide some quality of life in her remaining time. We do not have a...

Re: Facial Hair, NE"A"D, Lombardi Cancer Center

I've got the facial hair thing going too, but mine only started after I stopped treatment. My eyebrows have turned dark and thick, my eyelashes are thick and curly (they were always thin straight and almost invisible). It's wild. I kind of like the new eyelash look. I do have some fuzz on my face an...

Life2short is home; struggling with paralysis, progression

Hi all, Lynn (Life2short) here. Thanks for all the kindness and concern shown when my husband originally posted about my paralysis. It's been a rough couple of months. I was on Irinotecan and Erbitux last summer. A scan in early August showed that the treatment was working. I decided to take a month...

Lifes2Short Paralyzed - updated 9-17

Hi, folks. This is the husband of Lifes2Short reporting. She had taken a chemo break after a scan showed that Erbitux and Irrinitecan had successfully stopped the progression and even shrunk some lesions. She was excited and decided to leave Utah and take the kids to the ancestral home of Vermont fo...

Re: Drinking Alcohol and Stage IV?

My oncologist and my friend who is a cancer surgeon both say it's fine to drink. All things in moderation. I have liver mets, but one or two drinks doesn't hurt - I do not have any elevation in my liver enzymes or anything. I find that I can't drink more than a couple drinks - no desire to be hungov...

Re: Has anyone heard from "JessiLeigh"??

Thank you for sharing some details about her battle and her life. She was lucky to have you. I am so sorry for your loss. Truly the hardest thing about this disease for me is the impact on my family and friends. I hate how much cancer hurts everyone, including our faithful four legged friends. My th...

Re: Questions on Erbitux

Guest, none of these drugs are a "cure". Not if you're stage IV anyway. The reason that Erbitux and is usually given with Irinotecan and or Folfiri is that clinical trials showed Erbitux to be more effective when combined with Irinotecan. (Or so my doc tells me.) I've been on the combo sin...

Re: Osteoperosis in my jaw D/T chemo!

It's common to be put on Zomeda or somthing like that if you have bone loss. (or bone mets). This will help offset the effects of the 5fu. But make sure you get your dentist stuff out of the way before starting Zomeda - they warn not to have any invasive dental work while on that med.

Terry, talk to your Onc before having a tooth extraction or any major dental work. If you're on Avastin you have to worry about bleeding.

Re: please help

Look into Erbitux and/or Vectibix. They only work if you have a certain type of tumor. They can do genetic testing to see if your father is a candidate for the drug. They typically combine it with Irinotecan - a good thing considering that your dad had a good response to Folfiri. Ask his doctor if t...

Re: Caught my mom smoking!!!

I've never been a smoker and I'm not the addictive type, so I really don't understand the smoking thing. However, I know that it's extremely difficult for some people to quit and I understand that it is a stress reliever. Cancer is very stressful. Quitting is difficult, even physically stressful as ...
