Controlling diarrhea while on Irinotecan with Sandostatin?

Well, I'm back again, as I'm starting up another round of chemo on the 11th. I most recently was on irinotecan and erbitux from August 2017 through June 2018. As a result of side effects and mental and spiritual fatigue I decided to take a break and move back closer to my family. I saw an oncologist...

Re: Irinotecan with colostomy

I was thinking along the same lines as you about the fiber (though specifically soluable fiber, not insoluable.) I tried taking the Benefiber, which caused some gas, not a huge deal, and discomfort for two days. Then, tonight everything came at once again. It was more solid, but it still came in abo...

Irinotecan with colostomy

I am restarting folfiri after taking a short break from six months of folfiri and then eventually just 5-FU and Avastin. When I originallly started the Folfiri back in January, I had extreme nausea which we eventually got a handle on, but we never really figured out how to control the diarrhea, incl...

If you trust the doctor doing the scope, that's more important that doing it two weeks sooner. I can understand why you're feeling so nervous, though. You'll know the answer soon.

Re: Diagnosed CC sigmoid

Re: pumps I've liked having a pump, even though it's presented some problems for me. I had my general surgeon put the first one in. He's the one who told me that I needed to have it and gave me no option. Unfortunately, he kind of screwed it up. First, it was so deep that they had to find 1 and half...

Re: Diagnosed CC sigmoid

Steve k that's bad news about the bag at our age. Not sure how your doc got that so wrong. After my colonoscopy I saw my colorectal surgeon he actually put me back to sleep and had a look himself. Then he had another look during the keyhole surgery for my stoma. He even looked at the liver. It soun...

Re: Anyone had pelvic insufficiency fracture from radiation?

I trust my lung surgeon, as he was able to do my resection with the VATS system when no one else wanted to operate so close to the pulmonary artery. I went to see him in December and he felt like there wasn't a great surgical option, because the spots were in both lungs and also because it looked li...

Re: Anyone had pelvic insufficiency fracture from radiation?

Similarly I travelled to Europe for lung mets surgery with the lung laser available there. Steve K - have you considered this? I know some people have had their US insurance companies pay for it. I haven't. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll start looking into it. I'm sure that my insurance company's ...

Re: 4th cycles done but I cried

The 40% statistic my Onc said was based on surgery alone, but with chemo the stat goes up to around 70% which doesnt sound right to me but I didnt want to question her. My own expectations is 50% so could go either way in terms of a recurrance. But as others have stated don't focus too much on the ...

Re: 4th cycles done but I cried

I'm surprised that pump wasn't beeping at you. The first time I took the pump home it started beeping like crazy in the car. I couldn't figure out what was going on. I finally noticed that one of the clamps was closed. I never had a problem after that. I'm also a bit surprised that the nurses didn't...

Re: 18 days in hospital for rectal cancer surgery

I had the wound vac for 2 months, which delayed my chemo and other treatments. I'm becoming convinced that wound vacs don't work that well on abdominal wounds. I was going to say that don't work at all, but I'm sure in some situations they do. However, when I had my colostomy moved after a blockage...

Re: 18 days in hospital for rectal cancer surgery

What brands of stoma supplies were they giving you? I have a colostomy, so things are generally a bit less likely to be wet, but when I have some bleeding or lots of output the seal will start to loosen. I'm sure that would especially be an issue with an ileostomy. I use Hollister and have found tha...

Re: 4th cycles done but I cried

One of the drugs that helped me with treatments, both recently and five years ago, was getting a dose of ativan during the infusion. First, it calmed my nerves, which were honestly making things harder, and that I couldn't control. As importantly, it put me to sleep during most of the infusion. I di...

Re: 4th cycles done but I cried

I threw up ten times, including at pump disconnect, during my second treatment with Folfiri. I had hit a wall and didn't know if I could go on, or if I wanted to. After the first treatment, which wasn't much better, the doctor even offered to let me stop the irinotecan or treatment altogether, becau...
