essiac tea

Meighan, I don't know about tumeric, but be very careful about essiac tea. A homeopath recommended I take that, but I investigated it first. There are websites that will sell their special formula of it, but also many others that talk about its dangers. "Essiac" sounds like an herb right? But it is ...

aspirin and calcium

My surgery gave me a pamphlet that said the same thing. I'm not sure how much preventative it does, but I figure as a premenopausal woman, the calcium is needed anyway. And baby aspirin is such a low dose and has other health benefits. If anyone has a link on research, I would love to see it. Kelley

Kitkat - while you are waiting

KitKat - It is aggravating to have to wait to see the person who can do the colonoscopy. In the meantime, see if your internist can do a blood test to check for anemia and a stool sample test (you do at home). The reason I suggest this is that when my internal med doc found I was anemic, he immediat...

"returners"

Theresa, When I started chemo in Feb., my nurses gave me some information about Neulasta because they wanted to start me on it right away. It said that if you have had chemo before, you may be more vulnerable to neutropenia. That may be why you are experiencing it so quickly your third time around. ...

white blood cells

It is when your white blood cells are low that you should stay away from sick people. 16 years ago I had a different type of cancer, and my WBC often went low. I didn't listen to the doctor, and was slow to learn, and ended up in the hospital with pneumonia twice. One of those times was on Christmas...

strength

Amy, As far as your surgery recovery goes, yes you should start feeling stronger. Try not to be discouraged by bad days you may still have. Make sure you get a lot of rest! You should try to get a copy of the path report from your surgery. It should say on there the information on your staging that ...

chemobrain

Keep in mind this study was on breast cancer patients (ironically I just read a discussion thread about how much more attention breast cancer gets that colon cancer!) - so if you bring this up with your docs they will probably tell you that!

sisters

I'm going to echo everyone - schedule your colonoscopy! I was 36 when I was diagnosed with stage 2b (last Dec). My sister got in as soon as possible, and she had one polyp (age 33). It took us months to convince our 63 year father that he needed to get his colonoscopy. He had 4 polyps! I wish I reme...

Mary, Maybe you should find a new doctor who will be more attentive. If your food is going right through you, you won't be getting enough nutrition. I don't remember the site, but I did read on a website some tips after colon surgery: Eat smaller meals, eat more often (like 4-6 small meals a day). A...

allergic reactions?

Nick, I only received OXY for 6/12 treatments. I was experiencing the symptoms longer and longer post treatment as many have mentioned here, so my husband was doing research on whether I should continue, or whether the Cal/Magnesium would help. However, on my 5th and 6th treatment, I had severe alle...
