Radiation Induced Osteoporosis

Hi, Has anyone been diagnosed with severe osteoporosis after radiation for rectal cancer? I broke my hip in two places just from jogging last December. Had a bone density done and now need more testing. They are not sure how to treat this because I am only 39 so they do not want to put me on Boniva ...

Re: Blockage Question???

I would slow your eating down just in case - liquids are best. If you get bad cramping pains (kind of like labor) and vomiting, head to the ER. If you are feeling constipated try some miralax or colace, that might help. Also, I find chugging a couple glasses of water can get things moving. Good luck!

Re: Surgical and chemo options for blockages

If you are having repeated blockages, then you need surgery to fix yourself up! I've had many, many, many blockages. Some do fix themselves, but you need to have total gut rest (IV fluids/TPN) if it is for an extended period of time.. I was once on TPN for two months hoping a blockage would heal on ...

Re: In Need of Tshirt Slogan

Not sure it is an appropriate tshirt for this event, but here is what I said to my surgeon before my ileostomy surgery:

"Same shit, different way." He thought it was pretty funny. :)

Love all the ideas.

Re: What age to test children for Lynch?

I think as of now my boys will get colonoscopies and genetic screening at age 18. Who knows though what new technology we will have in 10 years to help save our babies from the horrors of colorectal cancer. Thanks for your input. I was at the pedi yesterday and asked him. He wasn't sure and said to ...

What age to test children for Lynch?

Just curious as to what your doctors say... at what age would you tests your children for Lynch? My doc said not until they are 18... Since I was diagnosed at 32 I was thinking more like 15. Thoughts?

Re: Questions for people who have had ileostomy reversal a while

Things do get better with time. You will find that you have good days and bad days for a while. It is a good idea to keep change of clothes and bum cream with you at all times. I find even now, three years later, I have unexpected moments of incontinence. When I was working full time last year I fou...

New med helping after reversal

Hi all, My GI started me on Levsin after I was boo-hoo ing about going to the bathroom about 20+ times a day, and having incontinence. I take one or two a day, depending on how the day is going. It is helping me A LOT!!!! My only complaint is that it gives me a dry "cotton mouth" feeling. ...

Re: Gofisch still in the hospital 16 days post-take down

Hi Frances, How are you doing? After my initial cancer surgery I had to have a second surgery for lysis of adhesions. In all I was in the hospital 3 weeks and on TPN for a month. After my take down surgery I went home and then a few days later had a blockage... major pain, and actually was vomiting ...

Re: Gofisch update (Frances)

So sorry to hear that. I had ileus problems as well. They will just keep you on TPN until you can start passing gas/stool. It can take a few weeks. Just make sure that you do not have an obstruction/scar tissue before you leave. Have they done any scans or an upper GI? Hoping that the gas passes FAS...

Levsin

Hi

Anyone try Levsin for post reversal incontinence? My GI recommended giving it a try, and well, at this point, I'll try anything.
