Re: Paranoid

My mind was all over the place when I was where you're at. Just try to focus on getting through it. One thing to watch out for might be protein supplements. I was really into lifting for a few years before I got diagnosed and went back to drinking two protein shakes a day after surgery when I starte...

Re: I'm having obsessive thoughts as to why?

You don't know how much this hits home. I was in the best shape of my life when it hit me. I have zero of the risk factors, never been overweight, zero family history, barely ate red meat, etc. I internalized a lot of "why me?" anger at the beginning. My friends and family that had horrifi...

Re: Is it ok to lift weights with a chest port?

I lifted weights during chemo and the only thing my oncologist said was that he'd prefer that I went when the place was less crowded. I still remember how weird it looked when I saw the tube bend when I was doing pullups. I think the advice to give it some time to heal after it being insert...

I'll be rooting for you. It looks like our lymph node counts were similar too. I think I had 1 if I remember correctly. Chemo isn't fun but you can do it! You'll get a lot of support on here.

Re: Lifestyle changes?

I can relate a lot to this. I was in the best shape of my life when it got me. Hitting the gym 3-4 times a week, never overweight, never drank alcohol, never smoked/drugs, had given up red meat years ago and I get f****ing cancer. Honestly the only change I made was to make an effort to eat little p...

Re: Newbie here - chemo help / advice

I did the CAPOX (XELOX) route because I felt just taking some pills would be the less intrusive option for my life. I got some minor (and temporary) hand/foot syndrome but I don't regret my choice.

Re: 10 years & 3 days since diagnosis

MY DUDE!!!!

This post made my week. Seriously.

So happy for you and Mrs Kiwi.

Your post did make me tear up. I remember crying the first time I met my surgeon. I couldn't believe what was happening to me. Look at us now!

Re: What were you most afraid of about your diagnosis?

I was so excited to become an uncle and couldn't wait to be a "fun uncle". After my diagnosis my biggest fear was that I would not only not get to do that, but that they wouldn't even remember me if I died.

Re: How Often Post Recovery Colonoscopy? Aspirin?

Every colonoscopy my gastro writes a report saying 'see you in 5 years!'. And then the other part of my care team says "how about no" and schedules me for 3.

Re: If you didn't share your diagnosis at work...

I worked with a small group that was part of a larger (but not big) department. I told the people in the small group an no one else at work. Plenty of people had no idea and might still have no idea of what I went through.

Re: Were you worried about losing your job at diagnosis?

No. I had an amazing boss at the time and he actually held off on a big change for our group so that I wouldn't have any changes in insurance when I was in the middle of chemo.
