Re: Stage 2 Chemo/No Chemo

I never know if I should respond to posts like these because I'm not sure of how much of an informed decision I made about my own case. Thirteen years ago, after my resection and receiving the pathology report, I asked my doctor what was next. He said a colonoscopy in six months, and periodic CEA te...

Re: Medtronic Bowel Control Therapy

Thanks so much CRguy for the links. Very, very helpful. I had already printed out some of the information for my SIL off the Medtronic site, but had not yet heard of the FENIX system. What I really need to do is get my SIL over to my house so that I can have her sit beside me at my computer so I can...

Re: Medtronic Bowel Control Therapy

Thank you so much for the response. Right now, my sister-in-law is emphatic in saying that she is not going to have the procedure done. However, I might suggest to her that she really consider the trial use of the device. One of the issues she has to face is that she provides a couple of days a week...

Medtronic Bowel Control Therapy

Does anyone here have any experience with Medtronic Bowel Control Therapy? I'm not sure it's something that is used for those of us who have/had colon cancer and the problems that can result after resection and/or chemo and radiation. I'm asking on behalf of my sister-in-law, age 63, who is having s...

Why Prep Amount Not Tailored to Your Size!!

While being prepared for my colonoscopy the other day I asked the nurse why I have to drink the same amount of prep as a 200 lb man, when I'm a 102 lb woman. She said, "Nice try!" She then explained our size does not matter, but that everyone's digestive system is different, unrelate...

Colonoscopy Prep - Need Help - Update

Thank you to all who answered my plea for help a couple of weeks ago. I had the colonoscopy on Tuesday, and wow, I hardly believe it, I didn't even have a polyp. That's a first! I got a pass to wait five years for my next test. I was supposed to drink three bottles of magnesium citrate, and actually...

Re: Weird bumps on finger joints

Sounds like what I have on my little finger of one hand. I've had it for a couple of years, and finally remembered to ask my PCP about it in March. He said it's a mucus cyst, and recommended leaving it alone. So, of course, I did an internet search for it when I got home, and yes, it's from arthriti...

Re: Colonscopy Prep - Need Help!

Thank you so much to all who have responded so far. :) As far as the Gatorade, I don't even know if I like it. I don't remember the last time I drank it. Maybe I'll buy some Kool-Aid instead. At least I know I like that, although it's been years since I've had any. I'm guessing that those new flavor...

Colonscopy Prep - Need Help!

Hello everyone. It's been a very long time since I've posted anything. I'm having a colonscopy next week, and need suggestions in getting through the prep. A little background here: I'm a 63 year old thirteen year survivor of stage II colon cancer. I've had what seems like so many colonoscopies that...

Re: ***News Stories Thread*** ONGOING 2013

I do not have an ostomy, and this is not about someone with colon cancer, but I think it's worth posting.

Re: Lower Left Abdomenal Pain

Hello henny. I am so sorry you are going through this. It's good that you are being checked by a gastro doctor, but I don't think an endoscopy would be able to tell you about what is going on in your colon. Have you been checked to see if you have endometriosis? I think that can cause pains in diffe...

Re: Be sure to wear abdominal binder after abdominal surgery

I sure wish I had been told to wear an abdominal binder. I seem to remember that the thinking back when I had my resection eleven years ago was that the binder contributed to the patient being more prone to developing pneumonia. I ended up with a hernia that's not a hernia. The way it was explained ...

Re: Digestive Problems and Colorectal Cancer Survivors

Hi everyone. It's been several months since I posted, but this topic really hits home for me. It's been almost twelve years since my resection (wow, I just realized that), and I still have issues. However, I have to say, things are much, much better for me than they used to be. I'd say that for at l...

Re: Offended by colon cancer article in Wikipedia

I'm a bit offended by it as well. I had a pretty decent diet, and ate very, very little red meat before diagnosis - also, I am a non-drinker, non-smoker, and my weight was great. However, colon cancer does run in my family (although it is not from Lynch syndrome). The article bothers me for more tha...
