Terrible, Heartbreaking News

Don't know if anyone read or heard about this, but last week a man was going for a run after work along a country road before making the hour drive home in traffic. While enjoying his run, he was viciously attacked by two Bullmastiff dogs that were running loose and unfortunately he was mauled to de...

Love this Idea!!

Just received my monthly email from the Colon Cancer Alliance. Since they realize how October kind of grates on us CC survivors with all the promotion for breast cancer screening, check out this t-shirt they are selling (of course proceeds, go to colon cancer awareness). Love this t-shirt and the id...

Re: Rear Saver 5k & 8k Run/Walk - Michigan

Both of the American Cancer Society's "Rear Saver 5K & 8K Run/Walk" events in Southeast Michigan (Detroit and Ann Arbor) were a success despite the cold and windy temperatures at both! We had a combined total of 700 participants and raised $75,000 for colon cancer awareness, prevention...

Remembering 8 Years Ago

This evening was a day of reflection. Eight years ago on the third Monday in April, three months before I was diagnosed with rectal cancer, I completed my second Boston Marathon. At that time, I knew I would not be back to run it again - yes it was fun, but the training it takes to qualify, and the ...

Re: stomach crunches with ileostomy

I was never told that I could NOT do anything. I have had my ileostomy for almost 9 years and try to do 50 crunches 5x a week. I also continued with my yoga with no restrictions, and I also have taken up circuit training in the past year that involves A LOT of ab work. Go for it and see how it feels...

Rear Saver 5k & 8k Run/Walk - Michigan

Re: I'm bloody well going to write to this magazine!

I, too am a runner. Years before I was diagnosed with rectal cancer, I ran a few times in support of the big breat cancer runs here in the U.S. (Race for the Cure). I even ran it about 2 years after I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in support of one of my running friends who just finished treatmen...

Sad News Today

I found out today that my dear doctor who literally saved my life twice (ulcerative colitis and rectal cancer) has been dx with ALS. I am devastated. Our history together goes back 21 years. Although I no longer have issues that need to be addressed as his patient, we still keep in touch. I do a yea...

2011 Colander Model Meghan Tierney Hultman

Friday evening I attended the the Great Comebacks Central Region Award Dinner. This year's regional recipient is Meghan Tierney Hultman. When I was introduced to her, she looked vaguely familar and her name also seemed somehwhat familar. Then when she was introduced as a 2011 Colander Model is all c...

Re: Facebook friends with your doc?

I would have never considered it, but a couple months ago my doc that has treated me for 21 years for my UC and did my cancer surgery/ileostomy sent me a friend request. It took me a couple of weeks to mull over this dilemma before accepting. But to this day, I have not looked at his personal FB pag...

Re: Feet and Friends Fighting Colon Cancer

Candy, Unfortunately, there is not yet one in your area. We are the only ACS chapter that has the event. BUT other ACS chapters took notice of our success last year so if we have another successful event this year (which I am positive we will), national ACS will consider expanding it to other chapte...

Re: OT - Places to stay

See if there is a Hope Lodge. A couple of friends stayed at one in Boston when they were going through treatment at J. Hopkins and Boston Mass. for their various cancers. One traveled from Michigan and the other traveled from Maine.
