Re: Blood clots, leg pain and shortness of breath

I have had 2 DVTs and a large saddle embolism. I don't have a history of heart problems though. I can say that it took months to get my breathing back after the embolism. I have metastic disease to the lungs however so I see a pulmonolgist from time to time to track changes in breathing. I assume th...

Re: First oxi infusion

I have done FOLFOX Twice. Once about six yrs. ago and I am doing it again. The first time I developed back spasms after 6 cycles and they continued to get worse with the next two cycles. I had to stop at eight. This time around I has started out at half doses for a couple of cycles and gradually the...

Re: Alkaline diet and body's pH level.

One cannot change your systems pH by what you eat. Your body has a feedback mechanism to maintain neutrality. It does this by ion exchange to and from your bones. I don't recall how close to 7.0 it must stay but it cannot deviate too much otherwise life is not sustainable. That said eating healthy g...

Re: Folfiri

I have done both. FOLFIRI is the lesser of two evils in my experience. It does cause hair loss. My experience with digestive issues varies between constipation and diarrhea. The anti-nausea meds cause constipation and the chemo drugs cause diarrhea. Also, I have found that the amount of nausea for m...

Re: Oncologist - what questions to ask?

Since you are really seeing the Onc for the first time post surgery they should give you a detailed treatment plan. Since you have metastatic disease you will staged as a IV. You will undoubtably be put on a chemo regimen. Prior administering chemo they will need to know if your tumor is KRAS wild o...

Re: New Lung Mets ... VATs/Chemo advice?

I had the procedure at the University Clinic in Freiburg Germany. The surgeon was Prof. Bernward Passlick. That procedure is done at a variety of Hospitals in Germany. I happen to know some folks in Freiburg so that played into my choice of the location. That coupled with the fact that I am not remo...

Re: Has anyone heard this re:low rectal tumor

I had a T3 tumor 1 cm from the anal verge. During the time between the radiation/chemo and the APR surgery the pain went away. So I would say that the devil is in the details and those are different for each of us. If having to live with a permanent colostomy is your only future health problem consi...

Re: Nerve Pain - post resection surgery

I had a full open colon resection no lasting nerve damage around incision. Have had 3 thoracotomies, 2 yrs ago, still have some very uncomfortable nerve pain. In the ranking of problems nerve pain is a distant second to on-going metastatic disease. There are reasonable meds for pain management there...

Re: To Xeloda or not to Xeloda

I have done Xeloda in combination with Celebrix, that is the ADAPT Protocol the Dr. Lin uses at the Seatle Cancer Care Alliance. Xeloda is 2 weeks on 1 week off. For a month or so side effects were not too problematic. Then the hand/foot syndrome kicked in and things got nasty. A lot of skin peeling...

Re: New Lung Mets ... VATs/Chemo advice?

There are a few of us that went to Germany to have many mets resected with a laser. I had 8 removed from one lung and 6 from the other. This was done because with that number of mets, no one in the states is willing to tackle that job. I had it done two years ago. It is a difference in treatment phi...

Re: New drug for stage IV

The std. Use of chemo is FOLOFOX (first line), FOLFIRI (second line), and after that Stivarga ( tough side effects), and now Lonsurf ( Effectivity TBD). This sequence is for KRAS mutant which I have. The KRAS wild type will have some variant that will include Erbitux.

Re: Wart or mole protruding from stoma

I had a skin met in the groin. It was small and sort of looked like an infected hair follicle. My Onc did not recognize it and even the dermatologist could not say what it was by visual inspection. I had it biopsied and it came back as a met. In my case I did not use a Mohs dermatologist and that re...
