Mom in hospital, near the end and so angry

My mom after running through all chemo and treatment options is in the hospital and will be there indefinitely. She is very angry and lashes out a lot, especially at my dad (her husband of 37 years) I dont know why she targets him, but its so hard to watch, I feel so bad for my dad. None of us know ...

Re: Moms cough getting bad! stopped chemo and still feels bad

So we saw her Onc. again who ordered another CT scan. It turns out this whole last round of chemo has done nothing. Plus she has been off all chemo for almost a month. In that time the cancer has grown a lot in her lungs, more spots on her liver and is now in her bones (upper butt cheek area, which ...

Re: Moms cough getting bad! stopped chemo and still feels bad

She's had the cough for a month now, she went to her onc dr. who told her to go see her family dr. WTH is that suppose to mean? She has mets to her lungs, dont they think that might be causing the cough? I'm not sure what to make of it, I guess its possible that she has bronchitis but I just wish sh...

Moms cough getting bad! stopped chemo and still feels bad

So my mom (stage 4 mets to liver and lungs, had resec, been on chemo for 1 year) has had a cough for over a month now. She has also recently stopped chemo recently to take a break. Her cough seems to be getting worse and worse. She had a CT scan done a month ago and the spots in her lungs were still...

Re: How long of a break is safe from chemo

She was on fulfuri and switched to folfox a couple of months ago. He hasn't really said how long of a break she should take, he has kind of left it up to her. But he said that sometimes people give the powers of chemo too much credit and that it isnt a miracle drug, some of it is just her body fight...

Re: How long of a break is safe from chemo

Thank you everyone so much, I'm so grateful for the people on here that let me know we're not alone and that care. I talked to my Mom this morning and she had a smaller dose of chemo on Thursday and still feels like crap, she was throwing up, slept for a day and a half, and had a fever last night. H...

Re: Port vs PICC which is better? Why one over the other?

Thanks everyone. Wow it's really sounding like the port is the way to go. It kinda makes me mad that it wasn't even given as an option in the beginning. They just put in a picc line. They always knew it was going to be for long term chemo, so I really don't understand why they wouldn't have done the...

Re: What do you do differently now that you know.staying happy?

WOW, sorry I never responded for so long, I live in a remote area where we get our internet through a tower with a satellite signal. It went down in late November and was finally put back up last month. I am still here and I have read all these posts now, and even though they are from a long time ag...

Port vs PICC which is better? Why one over the other?

My mom has had a PICC line for a year now and she is SOOOOOO tired of it. Whats the difference between a port and a PICC, is one better? what is the difference ? Would a port be more convenient?

How long of a break is safe from chemo

My mom has been on chemo for a year this month and it's finally becoming just too much. She is so tired all the time, doesn't wanna eat much and has neuro damage to her feet and hands (they feel hot all the time and her feet are numb and feel cold to her but burn to the touch) The Dr. suggested that...

Re: Mom starting chemo

I'm sure you've heard a million times that it's different for everyone. My mom has stage 4 and has been on chemo for one year this month. But going back to the beginning.......We had no idea what to expect, after her treatment she came home with her pump on and she felt fabulous, she had sooo much e...

Re: What comes after chemo??

Thanks for your responses. Right now my mom is in the "I don't wanna talk about it" phase. She wants it to just go away. She doesnt wanna have chemo, is tired of having a PICC line, wearing a bag, being at the clinic, getting flushed...and on and on. I think she just wants to pretend shes ...
