Re: Scary New Beginnings

Supportingwife, I would strongly recommend starting with a low reside diet, meaning low fiber - white flour breads and pastas, cooked fruits and vegetaes without the skins etc. Gradually add in the whole grains, starting with low fiber selections. Everyone is different. It's a process of trial and e...

Re: Obstruction!

Hi Sammy, I had a number of obstructions the year following my reversal surgery. The last one did not resolve itself and so I had the surgery. The put some kind of a film around the intestine where I had the adhesions and I have never had a problem since and that was 2 years ago. It did take me abou...

I've done the blockage thing before, Rick. It's no fun. Feel better. You are in my thoughts.

Re: Am I too selfish???? Need your input.

Pam, I do not think you are being selfish but I wonder if a permanent stay-at-home plan is wise. I understand that you need a break now to recover from all you have been through. However, if you recently filed for bankruptcy, I'm guessing that you don't have much in the way of retirement savings. Ho...

I'm scanning on Friday, May 10. If this scan is clean, I'll have passed year 3. Good luck, Disco, Stephh and Cheryl!

Re: Anyone have bowel obstruction surgery?

I had my obstruction surgery in December 2010. My adhesions were at the site of my ostomy which I had reversed a year earlier. (within weeks of the reversal I started having obstructions .). I haven't had an obstruction since. The surgery was open but it was done for an obstruction that would not cl...

Re: What do adhesions feel like?

I don't recall having any physical signs or symptoms of adhesions until I actually had a blockage.

Re: Scared, small bowel obstruction

I had several obstructions due toadhesiins in 2010 and wound up spending8 days in the hospital with surgery that December. It took several weeks for my digestion to return to normal. The surgery did cure the adhesions (at least so far). Be careful to chew your food well and be careful of hard foods ...

Re: Make Mine a Double--The Real Deal

Eric,

It's the epidural. I had numbness in my thighs, particularly the right for a long time after my LAR. It lasted for over a yearto some degree but never caused any problems and is now completely gone.

Re: Make Mine a Double--The Real Deal

Eric ,

I'm hoping (and kind of assuming) that all went well at least with the physical part of the surgery. Your post is somewhat of a cliffhanger and I'm eagerly awaiting the next chapter. All of the best to you - sending you the strongest thoughts I can muster.

As a member of the mostly-lurker community, I'd like to echo this thought. For those of you going through treatment and suffering recent bad news, please know that there are more people than you realize thinking of you and wishing you well.

Re: Preparing for Surgery

Julie, I strongly suggest you pack some wet wipes or diaper wipes. You may be spending a lot og time on the toilet after your reversal and the hospital toilet paper is murder on the bum. Even the best TP is not enough. You need so something soft and moist. As for preppi g for surgery - a friend of m...

Re: Hystorectomy with colon resection/genetic testing?????

I was presented with the same choice as you for the same reasons. I too had fibroids. I went with the complete hysterectomy along with the LAR. I had an easy recovery from the surgery and I have not missed those fibroids!
