Celebrating 10 years of survival today

10 years ago today my 39 year old husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal cancer with liver mets. It was a grueling year of treatment with radiation and continuous infusion of 5FU, followed by surgery with resection of the colorectal tumor and liver met, followed by 6 more months of chemo with...

Re: Really??!!??

I haven't been on this website for quite awhile and for some reason today I thought I should take a look. So very sorry to see this post. Will be saying my prayers for you as you move forward in your workup. Cancer is never a good thing, but I remember a thoracic surgeon years ago telling me that a ...

Putting Oncologist in Rear View Mirror

Today was the day we never thought we would see - our last routine CT scan, blood tests, and appointment with Oncology. My DH made that 5 year mark disease free after the original surgery and treatment. Reading the statistics at diagnosis, I never envisioned this day would come for us. Stage IV is a...

Re: Cold Agglutinins

I work in the world of cardiac surgery and we routinely check cold agglutins on all of our heart surgery patients. The way it has been explained to me is that you are either positive or negative for cold agglutins and if you are positive then it is usually in a ratio such as 1:4, 1:16, etc. Cold agg...

Re: Kicking and Screaming

You have such an incredible way with words! Congrats on your 5 year mark. October 29th was my husband's 5 year anniversary -so another Stage IV survivor progression free after the initial 10 months of treatments. One more CT scan and check up to get through and then the Oncologist will kick him back...

Re: At that point: clinical trial or hospice

I was very sad to see your post. Dick and your family have fought a very difficult battle over the last several years. You and Anji were some of the first wives to welcome me to the colon club so I have always tried to follow your journey. I will pray for you and your family. For peace in the decisi...

Re: Liver Mets Found During LAR

My husband had a very similar situation to yours. The CT scan at diagnosis showed no signs of liver involvement, we were suspicious there were several lymph nodes involved. He went through the preoperative chemo and radiation for rectal cancer so it was about 3 months from diagnosis to surgery. In t...

Celebrating a day we didn't think we would have!

I just wanted to share with the group that on Sunday, my family was able to celebrate a moment together that I didn't think we would have after my husband's cancer diagnosis. My son graduated from high school and I am so happy to share that his dad was there to witness it and celebrate the day with ...

Re: "No CT evidence of recurrent neoplasm or metastatic dise

So happy to see your post. Our guys were diagnosed around the same time so I always look for your posts. I haven't been on the site for awhile so grateful that I caught it today. My husband had his "unremarkable" checkup in early December. CEA lowest it has been at 0.5 and scans all clear....

Re: Liver biopsy result: Met

So sorry you are having to face this at such a young age and exciting time in your life. Congrats on your baby! My husband had a single liver met that was resected at the time of his colon resection. The liver met was found in the OR during the surgeons routine exam of internal organs as they were r...

Thank you so much for posting this information about Anji! She is such a special lady and incredible caregiver. I have often wondered how she was doing as well as their beautiful children. I have thought of Jonah many times over this past year. My prayers are with Anji and her family. Please let her...

Re: In shock

August marks 3 1/2 years since my husband's surgery for resection of his primary tumor and solitary liver met. He ended his chemo treatments 3 years ago. No evidence of disease since the surgery. You never know where you will fall in those statistics. He had so many factors that made it seem like re...

Re: Blake update - he's DONE.....

My thoughts are with you and your husband. We had a dear friend make the same decision a few weeks ago after a 9 year battle with breast cancer. The grace and love that she showed in those last weeks was amazing. My friend and her family were so at peace in the end. It was amazing to see. Hoping for...
