Re: Were you worried about losing your job at diagnosis?

No. I work a government job and both my direct supervisor and the division head were people I’d worked with in previous assignments before they promoted. I had over 1,000 hours of sick leave built up as I rarely called in sick. I tried coming back to work during treatment on a part time basis and co...

Re: If you didn't share your diagnosis at work...

I worked in a division of 150 employees and a position where I was fully visible to everyone else. I told five or so people, including my direct supervisor and the division head, and asked them not to tell anyone else. They didn’t as the rumor machine was running off the rails when I got back after ...

Re: Enema’s stopped working?

After ten years, I thought the same. My bathroom habits took an ugly turn for the worst. One thing I had added to my diet was raw spinach salads with dinner. The timing of my issues was concurrent. I stopped spinach and went to lettuce and romaine salads instead. Things completely returned to normal...

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

11 years post surgery. I can’t even remember the exact surgery date anymore. I think it was the 22nd.

Actually have to check with my primary care physician and see if I am due for a colonoscopy.

I don’t know if this really deserves its own thread, so maybe put it here and people can follow his career. I’m a huge baseball fan. In 2019 Trey Mancini of the Baltimore Orioles had a great season after a couple years showing great promise. Then last year at 27 or 28 years old he was diagnosed with...

Re: Stage 3, likelihood of recurrence after resection & chemotherapy

45% 5 year survival rate at the time I was diagnosed in 2010. Back in the 90’s, it was more like 25-30% if I’m not mistaken. From what I can tell, it seems the current survival rate is about 55% for stage 3c. Keep in mind there’s a five year lag on survival rates and that’s because the tests and stu...

Just passed year ten post resection surgery.

Considering the extensive lymph node involvement I feel pretty fortunate.

Re: Any younger men post rectal surgery?

Hi, I had surgery at 37 for rectal cancer. For the first nearly a year, sex wasn’t really a thought. I had a colostomy bag and was single and wasn’t trying to have to explain that to a woman I didn’t have a relationship with. After reversal, levitra works just fine. I’m sure viagra and cialis do also.

Re: Not sure how to feel right now

Hi Hopegirl, Had the exact same chemo treatment as you. Oncologist said we’re going to give you the highest possible dose as you are young and can handle it. After three rounds of oxy they had to drastically reduce the dosage as I couldn’t handle it. The oncologist said it was common enough that it ...
