Re: Liver Resection Experience?

ljmorefield, I had two liver resections about 10 months apart to remove liver tumors. My surgeon did not initially intend to do 2 surgeries, however during the first resection he was not able to cut out all tumors because he felt it was too risky to take that much of my liver. He used RFA on one tum...

Re: HAI pump removal

Hi Chris, My pump removal experience was similar to cptmac- went in for the removal in the morning, home in the afternoon. I went fly fishing the next day. I had the pump in for a year and a half. I had several rounds of chemo (FuDR) with it and my docs were concerned about liver toxicity as well. B...

Re: Colondar goes to Roanoke with Erika! :)

Ya'll are too kind (*blushing*). I recently heard about another Virginia Tech student, 20 years old, diagnosed last month with stage IV colon cancer. Took months to get an accurate diagnosis. Her story breaks my heart and I can't help but think if she (or her doctors, ahem) had only heard about The ...

Re: getting masters degree after cancer - grants?

Hey Traverler- I've been looking for years for post-bachelor degree aid for cancer survivors and have found nothing (until Brady's post about Cancerforcollege.org, thanks Brady). The particular university you attend or want to attend may have specific scholarships for cancer survivors. I have applie...

Re: Dan is at peace

Dear Tracey, I am so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. Please pass our condolences on to your sister-in-law. I remember your first post about Dan. The board had been up for a couple months and up pops this thread about a man with stage IV colon cancer who was young, married, with a young daughter- and...

Re: Fertility - post Folfox

RJC, As far as I can tell, there are no studies on the FOLFOX regimen (or FOLFIRI either) and fertility in women. I know someone who conceived after having Oxaliplatin. However my oncologist told me anecdotally that among she and her colleagues there was some concern that Oxaliplatin does leave some...

Re: Liver Resection or RFA??

Dear fourT's, I would get a second opinion from a surgeon, preferably one with experience with liver mets from colon cancer. Ideally, your husband would have seen a surgeon shortly after he was diagnosed. Did the surgeon say why he thought RFA was a better option for your husband than surgery? Surgi...

Re: Liver tumor discovered 7 mos. post Folfox6

Tom, You may be facing what I call a 'best worst case scenario'- the mets being the worst case part, but small, potentially isolated and resectable mets are about the best you can ask for. You've gotten some good advice thus far, but I thought I'd share some of my story to offer some encouragement. ...

Re: hope vs honesty - can they coexist in the same message

Hey all. I've been trying not to get involved on this one though I generally think it has been good for the forum to toss around these issues. Lots of good questions and points have been raised. I may be echoing a number of things Gaelen (whom I largely agree with) has already said. Nevertheless, tw...

Re: Myths about colon cancer/ topic: Tony Snow

I thought it was a messy interview- not sure the doc got across anything very clearly- her statement on screening if you have a family history was incorrect. No mention of symptoms. Questionable use of the word 'cured'. Frustrating, but then again, it's a 'close to home' issue for me and I'm thusly ...

Re: 31 year old brother diagnosed stage IV

Tracey- Have any of you talked with the doctor who performed the procedure? I would get a copy of the surgery report asap and get in contact with the doc to hear directly from him/ her. Has the doctor checked in on Dan since the procedure on Tuesday? I don't understand why he had to wait a day to be...

Tracey,
Ugh, how frustrating and scary. I'm sorry I don't have any specific advice, however, Dan is in my prayers (as are you and his family). Please keep us updated- it is nice to see you on the board again.
