Bladder cancer forum?

Does anyone know of a bladder cancer forum that is as great as this one?

I read this one diligently when my dad had colon cancer. I currently have a friend with bladder cancer, and am just looking for additional resources.

Bacteria play critical role in driving colon cancers

Patients with an inherited form of colon cancer harbor two bacterial species that collaborate to encourage development of the disease, and the same species have been found in people who develop a sporadic form of colon cancer... ...Using a mouse model of colon cancer, the researchers found that ani...

Re: Who are the longest stage 4 survivor's on here?

My dad's cancer was found only in his colon, which they resected. Months later, it seemed to have gone straight to his liver, with a met in each lobe. Was was kinda large since it went detected for quite some time (hospital "error"). His resection and 3 mop-up rounds of chemo (xeloda) was ...

Re: Question for those who became liver resectable

In my dad's case, it was the surgeon. Dad was pushing for surgery, onc said he wasn't a candidate. Dad's age, late seventies, may have had something to do with this. Finally the onc consulted the surgeon that said if the tumor responded to chemo after 3 rounds, he would operate. Thankfully, it respo...

Re: Xeloda alone for stage 3?

My Dad's stage IV treatment was Xelox (and surgery). At his last checkup (now just over 5+ years in remission), the onc told us that the new protocols state that he would not have been given the Oxy, but the Xeloda only, due to his age at the time (late seventies). As mentioned above, it's a risk/be...

Re: Anyone do CHELATION Therapy?

I have often wondered about chelation therapy after chemo too, since one of the main chemo agents is platinum based. Interesting, looks like chelating something other than platinum actually helped prevent resistance to the platinum chemo: http://m.mct.aacrjournals.org/content/11/11/2483.full I did a...

Re: Stage 4 Survivors - Can you update us on your progress

Dad, diagnosed in his seventies, had(?) Stave IV - two liver mets were found months after a colon resection. He had xelox, liver resection, more xelox. Maybe 6 rounds of chemo total. He continued to take his selenium, upped his 1/2 a multivitamin to a full multi a day, and added IP6 (enzymatic thera...

Re: BEER AND CHEMO

Dad's onc said he could have a beer a day, but nixed the idea of any more.

I don't know if the onc would have given the same advice to a younger man, dad was in his eventies when diagnosed.

Re: Low Initial CEA Level. Good or Bad?

I agree that CEA is a good indicator! A reading of 1 that goes up to a 3 could be as indicative of recurrence as a reading of 10 that goes to 100. A Chinese study said those who are dx'd with a CEA of 5 or less (I don't know their laboratory standards) have a higher chance of long term survival no ...

Re: Colon cancer treatment for elderly

Dad was about 78 when the two mets to his liver were identified. The onc told him that he was not a candidate for surgery and said that he would be ecstatic to get Dad 2 or 3 more years. Dad was pretty persistent, and got him to consult a surgeon who agreed to operate if the mets responded to chemo ...

Re: Ldh values?- Lactate dehydrogenase

Just looked at Dad's values. It was always within the normal region and fairly consistent during chemo, but after his liver resection, the LDH did drop by 50 points, and stayed at that level for the next year. It has inched up a bit since then, hoping it's nothing to worry about.

Re: Ldh values?- Lactate dehydrogenase

I was just looking at the LDH tonight for something unrelated, and ran across this thread. My dad's oncologist said that they used the LDH as a cancer marker, but he did not elaborate. On the flip side, I found this - different chemo protocol than FOLFOX, but it appears that an increased LDH in some...
