I've cried maybe 3 times over the past 14 years because of my colostomy, I've thank GOD a million + times for helping me made the right decision and giving me my life ...

Re: Surviving radiation for rectal cancer

Hi did your ability to go to toilet without accidents improve after radio therapy ! Thanks ! X If you are asking me, my quality of life IMPROVED after I got the colostomy bag. Radiation destroyed 2/3 of my rectal muscles. I was tied to the toilet for hours anytime I ate. I had to be home for the da...

Re: Just Diagnosed

Hi. Does all this mean I am going to have a colostomy bag? Or does it mean there is nothing the surgeon can do? I noticed that this report is a lot lower You've got some WONDERFUL advice from weisssoccermon. I have a permanent colostomy and believe me, it gave me my life back. You really should see...

Re: Just Diagnosed

Hi and welcome, sorry for the reason you are here. It sounds like you have rectal cancer and as Mike stated, looks like stage I. Your chances are very good that you will beat this. Surgery for sure, more than likely, no chemo. Butt you might be getting radiation prior to the surgery to help shrink t...

Re: 2nd opinions outside of your hospital network

From what I understand, Kaiser will not pay for a 2nd opinion at Sutter unless they give you a referral for one. And I don't think they will. Butt if you are paying out of pocket, you should be able to see an Onc at Sutter. I would call up Sutter and see what they say. Good luck, let us know what yo...

Re: Chemo pain?

I'm glad you've got a call to your Dr. I'm wondering if the Avastin is causing the problem.

I was only on FOLFOX and don't remember stomach pain.

Hope you get answers soon.

Re: Stage II2b - T4 - need help

Stage II is such a gray area. IF I understand correctly, stage II2b would require chemo, butt in an 80 year old man, traditional chemo regiment might be overkill. Maybe look into "light" chemo. Either 5FU or the pills form of it. Maybe a 2nd opinion at a major cancer treatment center might...

This just popped into my head. Check and see if there are any medical compliant against that doctor who did the scope back in 2011.

Re: Is it possible for a rectal polyp to grow to 10cm aggressive T4 advanced tumour in 3 years?

Lee mentioned that he could not believe that a reputable surgeon would leave polyps but many did. Some only took biopsy if they looked odd?? I know of no reason why any good doctor would leave any polyp behind. You don't wait until the polyp turns cancerous to remove it. If you can get copies of al...
