Re: Enlarged Thymus?

My oncologist called me today with the results of the CT scan I had last week. Everything else looks good, but my thymus is enlarged. She said that she has seen this before in patients that have had pelvic radiation, because their blood counts don't rebound as quickly. My blood counts have been con...

Re: Support please

Hi and welcome, I'm so very sorry for the reason you are here. I see that you are from Montana (me too, Great Falls). The best advice I can give you is to get 2nd opinions from major cancer hospitals or major cancer treatment centers. Check Billing, Helena & Great Falls for major cancer hospital...

Re: Clinical trial of Stanford's Experiemental Cancer vaccine

FYI: If I understand correctly, we with other types of cancer may have to wait for quite a while to have a chance joining future rounds of its clinical trials even the cancer vaccine is proven to be effective for Lymphoma. Good question. I think it might depend on the success of the clinical trial....

Re: Mop up chemo experiences

Cold will effect you. Can you wear something around your throat when you are outside. Where are you? Hopefully spring is around the corner and the weather will get a lot better. Because you are a stage III you really want to get a few cycles of Oxaliplatin under your belt. Is there a chance you coul...

Re: Julie Yip Williams passed away last Monday, Mar 19th, 2018

So sorry to read this, I too have read a few of her blogs. And I too believe her book will be well publicized. I suspect this upcoming book will be a legacy for her family and kids.

My thoughts and prayers go out to her kids and and family.

Re: TPN (parenteral IV nutrition) at home

Sorry no one has responded yet. There have been people in the past who have been on TPN nutrition. Do a search in the "Search this Forum" tab. At least it will give you a starting point. I'm also hoping by bumping this thread back up to the top, someone who has some knowledge will respond....

Generally yes, from your resection date.

Congratulation!

Re: cauliflower stalk/ mushroom mass, 5cm: How to proceed?

When reading responses on this forum please pay attention to diagnosis/stage of a person. If diagnosis/stage are different from yours, such advice may not be applicable for your situation. Interesting comment . . . Maybe I should add more info to my signature line. During my first colonoscopy, GI d...

Re: cauliflower stalk/ mushroom mass, 5cm: How to proceed?

. . . . Later that same day I received the path of the biopsy. Margins were clear but the GI specialist and Colo surgeon still think it has cancer in it. This is the path that they have laid out for me: I have no idea what I am doing here, so any advice/recommendations would be helpful. I guess it ...

How old are you? I'm assuming you have at least one colonoscopy to diagnoses your UC. Has it been a while since you were last scoped? Do you have a GI doc? If yes, what is the doc suggesting? I can't response to your question regarding asacol as I do not have UC, but I understand it can be painful. ...

Re: Colon Resection week 4

Go with a "low fiber" diet for while. I'm surprised the surgeon suggested eating normal food so early following the surgery. Was she cut open like me or was her surgery lapro. People who are cut open, healing takes longer. At 4 weeks I was just starting to feel good. It would be 6 weeks wh...

Since you are so close to Duke I really would go there for a second opinion. Good Luck, Chrissy I agree! Get that 2nd opinion at Duke. This is your life and "IF" it turns out to be cancer, you really want to do everything NOW vs fighting a bigger problem down the road. Many of us have got...

Re: Recommendation for colorectal surgeon in NC

I live in Arizona, so I can not recommend a surgeon. Butt I would advise a "Board Certified" colon rectal surgeon. I believe you mention Duke University as a possible 2nd option. From what I do know, they are a VERY good hospital. Maybe others closer to your neighborhood can give you recom...

. . . and the CEa test too? Yes regarding the CEA. For some people, CEA can be an indicator of cancer activity. For others it is not. "IF" you have cancer, it's always a good idea to get a baseline. When I was diagnosed, my CEA was in the 20's, following surgery, it dropped down to someth...
