Ascites driving me CCCRRAAZZZYYY!!!!

I've had the fluid drained off 3 times withing probably the last month and a half. The first time they got a little more than 2 liters, second time they got 2 something and this last time they a little more than 3 liters. But my stomach isn't so much of a problem. It is still big, but I've got a lit...

No strength or energy AT ALL!

This started about a month ago. I just don't have any strength in my arms whatsoever and I don't have any evergy at all. I'm thinking it's from getting the SIRT treatment done and just laying around doing nothing for 2 months. I can't stand it though. What can I do to get some of my muscle mass back...

Re: ascites - should they be drained?

Having ascites drained isn't bad at all. I've had it done twice within' the past 3 weeks. They numb you, which is probably the worst part, then make a small incesion and put a catheter in. The other end of the catheter is inserted into a litre bottle that it is a vaccum and it pulls it out. I went t...

I don't know how you did it! I can barely deal with that thing for the 48 hours I have to wear it, I would lose my mind if I had to have it for longer than that! My hat goes off to you and everyone else that has to wear that pack more than 2 days!

Re: Starting back on Folfox tomorrow morning

With luck, a couple Folfox infusions will kill enough of the beast, such that it stops producing so much fluid and the diuretics can do actual evacuation of the build-up, instead of just bailing as much fluid as the beast is causing. The edema (leg/ankle swelling) was the the first to reduce in my ...

Getting my strength back.

I didn't realize until yesterday how much energy and strength I DON'T have. I haven't been fishing in probably 2 months or more and my sister said hey, lets go out to a pond for a little while this afternoon, so I agreed. I needed to get out of the house. When we got there, I was already feeling a l...

Re: What a difference a year makes

Patrick, I am very happy to explain. Substituting the word G-d is in keeping with the Jewish tradition of showing G-d's Hebrew name the highest degree of respect. When written out, G-d's Hebrew name can not be erased or destroyed. Although there is really no prohibition about writing out G-d's Engl...

Re: Starting back on Folfox tomorrow morning

Glad they drained that for you, 3 liters is a lot of fluid whether you're big-framed or slight. When they drained me on a Monday, they repeated it on that same Friday (just before discharge from hospital) because it did, indeed, fill back up. Are you on diuretics? During this past week, I've tumble...

Re: Dealing With the "New Me"

While I haven't had any major surgeries, I do have an awful scar on my chest from where they put my port in. I look at it as a battle scar, something to be proud of one day when I beat the sh*t out of this! I don't like it, it looks bad, but it's there and I have accepted that it's going to be there...

Re: Starting back on Folfox tomorrow morning

Everything went fine the other day with the Folfox infusion. I just had some MAJOR back pain from laying in that stupid hospital bed for 12 hours straight, I swear they have to make those things to be uncomfortable. Just the normal side effects, sensitivity to the cold, nothing major. Yesterday I we...

Starting back on Folfox tomorrow morning

Bright and early, I've got to be at the hospital at 7am. I'm not looking forward to it at all, they have to do the oxoliplatin infusion over 12 hours, so I'm going to be there for a while. I'm just hoping and praying that it's going to make me feel better like it was doing. I still haven't gotten ov...

Re: just started chemo

I was like you. I was so scared that I just kept waiting for the side effects that never came at first. When they did come they weren't nearly as bad as i ever dreamed. After my first treatment by husband dropped me at the pharmacy to pick up anti nausea meds and i was so scared that somethign was ...

Re: Dealing with neuropathy

Patrick, YES! Ask your oncologist what he/she thinks about giving you irinotecan (FOLFIRI) instead of (FOLFOX)oxi. Irinotecan has more GI side effects for some, but no neuropathy. It is as good a first line chemo as FOLFOX. Might be worth talking about. Bev Well after I had the reaction to the oxi,...

Re: CEA and CT

Patrick- PET is newer and more expensive technology, but that doesn't make it better. Neither is better than the other, they each look at different things. CT's look at the anatomical structures. PET's look at metabolic activity of cancerous cells. They are often used together (and performed one ri...
