Goodbye, my love.

Hello friends. Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Once my husband entered hospice nothing seemed important other than spending every waking minute with him. I was so blessed to be able to work from home for the last two months of his life. Sadly he passed on August 15. The memorial service is ...

Re: Advice for hospice

Hello - I'm sorry you're going through this. I think what services you can get will depend both on what the hospice organization has to offer as well as what your insurance will cover. Our hospice has offered respite care from an aide, onsite nursing care, and volunteers. Fortunately I haven't neede...

Re: End of life question about bilirubin

Thank you, everyone, for your thoughtful responses. They are so helpful! We are hanging in there. It's a revolving door of family visitors right now as all of our family lives in other states. I'm glad he's able (barely) to do this so he can say good bye to them all. It is definitely getting more ta...

Re: End of life question about bilirubin

Thanks for the response, Janet. Was her issues caused by high bilirubin, or was that just your experience in general without knowing what the specific cause of her confusion was?

End of life question about bilirubin

For those that have seen this through to the end with their loved one, I have a question. DH is in hospice and declining moderately right now. He's on a significant amount of pain killers and sleeps a fair amount now but is still alert and mildly active as he can be (like moving from couch to chair ...

Re: Any SSDI and COBRA experts here?

Well, I think I have an answer. I talked to my brother, a lawyer, and although this isn't his area of specialty he helped me interpret some of the information I was finding. I was going to come here and delete the post but then thought better of it because maybe this can help someone in the future. ...

Any SSDI and COBRA experts here?

I hate the "business" of cancer - this feels so distasteful to discuss when dealing with end of life in the first place! But, we have this situation that I could really use some help with. Here's the back-story. 1. DH was unemployed when he was first diagnosed. 2. DH went on SSDI in early ...

Re: Time for hospice

Thank you all for your kind and lovely words of support and love. I am so touched by it all. This group has meant so much to me during this journey and I know in the coming weeks, and hopefully months, you will help carry me through.

With much gratitude!

Time for hospice

As this journey began, so shall it end. The first 6 months to a year was a like someone picked us up and threw us into a tumbling dryer full of clothes, tennis shoes, and rocks. You all know the feeling. Beaten and battered, sometimes landing on soft clothes as we are hurled about, yet other times l...
