Re: Is early prevention the cure??

I'm very passionate about certain things I think are important, and I just happen to believe in FOBTs and Colonoscopies. With the information you've given me, I fully intend on spreading that message as well and learning more about that option for people who need it. I'm from the central area of New...

Re: Popcorn

Thanks. That's good to know. Now that I think about it, sometimes I get kinda sick when I eat Tostidos. Maybe it is the corn? I love corn on the cob, too, and nibblets and all sorts of corn products but now I wonder if they're affecting me too. I also happen to get sick from Garlic and Onions, and a...

Popcorn

As I mentioned before, I used to have a big thing for popcorn. I would eat it every day at least once. I was into trying all sorts of weird diets when I was younger and one of the things I tried was just eating popcorn. My Dad noticed my obsession with popcorn and he started buying me microwave popc...

Re: Colonics

Some people seem to have a 'comfort zone' and anything outside of that sets them off and they attempt to discredit/dismiss based on their own personal experiences/preferences. The irony, of course, is that 'conventional' medicine has only progressed as far as it has because of 'quacks' and 'snake oi...

Re: Is early prevention the cure??

Once again, I'm 33, I have no insurance, and I have no family history of colon cancer. The best way for me, and people like me, to keep abreast of our health is to be active in monitoring it. It would be nice (don't chastise me for using that word) if I could go through the rigorous physical testin...

Re: Is early prevention the cure??

My initial reactions to some of the negative posts regarding FOBTs is that they are made out of bitterness, but I can also see how they are made out of concern. I guess I'm just a very analytical person, and when I look at the numbers I see a different story than many of you who have lived through t...

Re: Is early prevention the cure??

I thought I would share this with you all...

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/03/healt ... .html?_r=1

It is an article in the NY Times about FOBTs, and how important they are. According to what I've read, the Colon Health Check kit is the exact test they're talking about.

Re: Is early prevention the cure??

I don't have any financial interest, other than the fact I CANNOT afford a colonoscopy right now, but I can afford a FOB test. I wasn't the first to link the site or quote the price in this thread, someone else did. I've tried other tests, but this is the best one I've found for the quality and reli...

Re: Is early prevention the cure??

I think you're getting off topic. I did not recommend only doing a FOBT. Nor do I suggest an FOB is an alternative for any other type of screening. What I'm saying is that for people who CANNOT afford to go to the doctor regularly, for people who DO NOT have insurance, and for people who ARE NOT eli...

Re: Is early prevention the cure??

I appreciate your point of view, Gaelen, I really do. You've been through something I never want to go through. However, until I either get some insurance or find myself independently wealthy, I'm still going to use and recommend Fecal Occult Blood testing as a better-than-nothing SELF testing metho...

Re: Is early prevention the cure??

I had one FOB test done a few months before my diagnosis due to my concern about sporadic bleeding. The test came back negative, my doctor told me I had internal hemorrhoids, not to worry. Four months later I was having surgery for a T4 tumor. I don't think Gaelen's case is an exception. Just my tw...

Re: Is early prevention the cure??

Gaelen: I'm not a doctor myself. The test I use is an immunochemical Fecal Occult Blood Test, and there is no dietary restriction. Check out what they say on the web site for Colon Health Check (I think someone linked it earlier in the thread). Once again, I'm 33, I have no insurance, and I have no ...

Re: Is early prevention the cure??

I totally agree Missjv. I'm a 33 year old male. About a year ago I went to the doctor with symptoms of IBS and GERDs. I told my doctor about some rectal bleeding I had a couple years prior to that when he asked me if I ever had any. I told him I attributed it to eating pop corn obsessively and once ...

Is early prevention the cure??

I've been doing a lot of research online about Colon Cancer and from everything I've read, it is the most treatable disease if caught early. With regular checkups and preventive screening, you can generally avoid an occurrence of Colon Cancer. I myself had several pre-cancerous polyps removed during...
