Re: Dazed and confused!!

I had a similar diagnosis and ended up with a tempory illeostomy. However, when I went into the surgery, neither I nor my surgeon knew what the end result would be; so I had to prepare myself for either possibility. I whole heartedly second everyone's suggestions for seeing a councelor by yourself. ...

Re: Too much Fish Oil (not good)

I use Nordic Naturals purified fish oil. It's tested for pollutants, so I feel pretty safe with it. About 3-4 times a week I pour about 1- 1/2 teaspoons in either a smoothie or fresh juice (no fishy taste), but I'm not sure how that translates to capsules. I'd hate to think I'm doing more harm than ...

I wonder what a hot yogurt smoothie would be like - maybe like hot eggnog?

[quote="BrownBaggerAs to the noise thing, I don't think there's any way around that. It's basically just your guts growling like they always do--just without a lot of skin, muscle and fat to dampen the noise. It was one of my least favorite things about having an ileotsomy. [/quote] I would dis...

What does "non-immunogenic cancer" mean? I did a small google search on it, but that didn't help much.

Well, I don't know as much as the others here, but first, one lymph node is pretty minimal. I think there's a good chance it hadn't escaped into the rest of your lymph system. And two, I see it as a positive thing that our immune system is able to deal with some cancer cells, but it does make me wan...

Re: Need advice about what to do in this situation

I would give according to what they need. Maybe they need something besides money? But if they do need money and if you can afford the $500 and if that's what they need, then give it. I see nothing wrong with paying them back if it's with the attitude of "it meant so much when you helped us thr...

Re: Did you have the reversal and wished you hadn't?

I wonder that too, Hannahaw. My doctor has a good reputation, but my first stoma was long and made embarassing noises. I did have a scare in the area from an operation I had as a child, so that might have affected his choices. Anyway, that stoma developed thickened walls and caused a blockage, so th...

I juice fruits, vegetables, and fresh ginger a few times a week and tolerate it well. It also keeps me from feelying guilty about not eating "healthy".

Re: Did you have the reversal and wished you hadn't?

If you had asked me during the first 3 months, I may have said that I wished I hadn't reversed. I had finally learned to eat in a way that kept my stoma happy and had been able to fly across the country to California and have a very nice vacation with my illeostomy. After the reversal things were ve...

Re: how do you explain to others?

I just this past month got up the nerve to try a clean-out enema, and I think it's a pretty good tool for making it possible to do special things. The first time was so I could spend the day in the woods with about 6 people from my conservation organization and the second was to go to a conference. ...

Re: Rectal bleeding and fear of colonoscopy.

Here is another thing to consider: if it is polyps and you catch them early, maybe you can avoid cancer. If it is cancer and you catch it early, it is a WHOLE LOT less bad that if you find out later. I let rectal bleeding go on about a year before I got it checked and really kick myself now because ...

Re: Newbie with Ileostomy takedown question?

My doctor used the stoma opening, but my situation was fairly simple.

I used Depends for a few weeks but really it was not necessary. Pretty quick I switched to Tampax type pads and now I just wear a panty liner all the time - just in case.
