Re: Neuropathy improvement: individual experience

I’m more than 10 years now from my oxaliplatin treatment. I distinguished between the cold sensitivity and the neuropathy - different types of pain really. For neuropathy, I was pretty classic according to my neurologist: 18 months after radiation ended was the peak of my improvement. It apparently ...

Re: Clustering advice

Check in with your colorectal surgeon to make sure you don’t have a fissure. They are common from radiation and can become chronic and sometimes the bodies’ response to the pain is bowel dysfunction and clustering. I didn’t get clustering from radiation but I have it now from LARS and I’ve had fissu...

Re: New here - rectal cancer, very nervous about radiation

I’m sorry that you are having to go through this but glad you found this board - it was a great support to me during my cancer treatment journey. As you can see from my signature I am an almost 11 year survivor of stage 3 rectal cancer. I was told all of the things mentioned in the posts above but n...

Re: working/traveling during radiation (?)

I had 6 weeks of chemo and radiation before my surgery. My doctors warned me that those 6 weeks would likely be the hardest and they were. Daily radiation and basically daily Xeloda wiped me out plus I had excruciating pain from the radiation because of the field needed in my case to reach the lymph...

Re: Neuropathy improvement: individual experience

I’m 10 years out from treatment and I have permanent neuropathy. It definitely improved over the 18 mo the after oxaliplatin was stopped. My medical team explained that it generally takes 18 months or so to regrow nerves or nerve endings - if they are going to regrow. After that, I worked with my do...

InterStim after 10 years of LARS

Hello all, I used to be a frequent reader and poster here but as the years of survival added up and I dealt with other health challenges, I stepped away. But I’m back now as LARS has worsened over the years. I did a long course of pelvic floor physical therapy with biofeedback which helped - just no...

Re: 2017 : In Memoriam

Probably there are only a few who remember Brady. He was the guy that welcomed me in back in 2006. I've never really gotten past his loss, or that of justsing, another beautiful person who helped me through the first of what would become many stages of cancer. And now Brown Bagger. We don't get pas...

Re: thinking of you, BELLE

Belle, I've been quietly thinking of you so very often these days as I've read your emails and Facebook posts, yet have stayed away from this board. Words just fail me right now but you have taught me to try to write so here you go my friend. In the words of CRGuy - sucknitude at what you are faced ...

Re: I'm Back……Questions re Treatment Advances in Last 6 Year

Thank you all for the welcome back and the cares for my SIL. Ski Fletch - good to hear the surgeons are waiting for the surgery. I pushed for the 10 weeks with my surgeon after showing him the study that showed improvement if waiting 10 weeks rather than 6-8 (he previously liked to wait 8). Glad to ...

I'm Back……Questions re Treatment Advances in Last 6 Years

Hello all, I know it has been a long time. Things are pretty well on my front although I do have some significant post chemotherapy permanent side effects but all in all, things are fine. I'm back because my SIL was just diagnosed with rectal cancer. Don't have clinical staging yet though - will hav...

Five Years Later

Just a quick note to encourage - it is five years now since my diagnosis - actually kind of crept up on me this year. I've been off the board as a way for me to focus on life after cancer. :-) See my signature for the details and see my thousands of posts for information on side effects, treatment, ...

Re: 2013: Survivor stories

I was diagnosed in November 2008 so I'm just 10 months from the 5 year mark now. My oncologist will have me do one last (hopefully) scan in November. I've shared lots on information on the board about my takedown experience (search "takedown info" and you should find the detailed mini-blog...

Re: Scary (From my Lymphoma Board) re: Anti-Oxidants

Four plus years ago when I started therapy my oncologist had a long talk with me about how vitamins and antioxidant supplements would inhibit the benefits of chemotherapy and he specifically forbid them except as approved by him. I took vitamin D3 (and still do) and I receive B-12 injections (mainly...
