I’d like to wish Founder, Molly McMaster a Happy Birthday and a 25th Anniversary remembrance for your terrible trip from Colorado to New York to get your diagnosis and to begin your recovery. I’ll be celebrating my 25 years in April. However, today I’m prepping for my 5 year colonoscopy scheduled fo...

Celebrating another year

I became cancer-free 19 years ago today! My cure was easy—18” of colon and no chemo! I was lucky to have symptoms and a colonoscopy. My doctor believes no one should ever die from colon cancer. Having a second chance continues to be a blessing each and every day!!

Re: Calling all JULY birthdays

July 25th I will be 66. Retired teacher/school administrator. We added a granddaughter and a grandson to our family over the past 2+ weeks. Both my daughters and their babies are doing well. I remain cancer-free after 16 years. I am living proof that colonoscopies save lives. Best wishes to all my &...

Molly's Birthday and that other anniversary

Happy Birthday to Molly and today marks her 13th year from the time she made that horrible trip home from Colorado. I still cringe when I read her recount of that trip home. From that, Molly was able to develop the Colon Club into what it is today. Thank you, Molly, for helping so many people over t...

Re: Too ashamed to say colon cancer?

I don't understand the embarassment of saying "I have (or had) colon/rectal cancer"; we all start out equipped the same way and when something goes wrong we try to get it fixed. We all go to the bathroom, we all look afterwards (looking saved me), we wipe, we flush, and we start the cycle ...

Re: Incisional Hernia – Management & Exercise

My incisional hernia developed almost 3 years after my colon resection surgery. Actually, my hernia developed into two separate one resulting in my remaining colon becoming twisted. That really sucked big time. My surgeon told me I was probably within four hours of another resection surgery as my co...

Re: Hospital Food Observations

I threw up everything I ate for the 1st 5 days...lost my gall bladder with the colon resection. Then I couldn't eat anything "good". I was discharged on a Tuesday morning (7 days post op.) and I noticed the dinner menu that included shrimp and fresh fish. I never kept down anything solid u...

Re: Incisional Hernias

I had an incisional hernia almost three years post-op. My bowel also had a twist which was a totally miserable experience. The hernia repair was completed with mesh, probably because of how active I am. That procedure was 8 years ago and everything has been non-eventful since that time. I have had t...

Re: Surgery in two days

Ironically, I will be having my 5 year colonoscopy tomorrow. Just finished my 4 Liter Go-Litely Prep. That was my first time with Go-Litely since my surgery prep eleven year ago. My memories of the procedure are very positive. I awoke to most of my family in the room. I remember being really funny w...

Molly's Birthday & Anniversary

Molly "celebrated" her 23rd Birthday 11 years ago today. The significance of that particular birthday is understood by all of us members of the Colon Club. Congratulations on all that you've done and all that you mean to so many people. You have and you continue to make a difference. Terry

Re: Joe may have a hernia..

My incisional hernia manifested itself rather rudely when my colon did a twist. I've been told many times that I was full of "it" and in this case I really was. My surgery was done on Good Friday of '02. The doctor told me I was within a few hours of having another colon resection. Fortuna...

Happy Birthday to Molly & 10 years post op.!

Molly, "Happy Birthday to you....."! I'm really not singing....that would hurt more that having staples pulled out of your abdomen. Seriously, I think we all need to honor the young woman (you're still young) who got this thing started 10 years ago. Also, congratulations on you 10th year a...

Re: Prep for colonoscopy

The last time I prepped for a colonoscopy, I stood in front of the bathroom mirror and yelled at my reflection for being such a whiny, "girly-man". It took me about 25 minutes to down a shot glass full of phospho soda. I can throw down the same amount of Tequila in about 2 seconds. I did t...
