10 Years Today!

Officially 10 years NED as of today. I wanted to post my story for those new to the board. When I was first diagnosed all I wanted to read were survival stories. I knew that it didn't necessarily mean I would survive long-term but the possibility and knowing that others had was so important to me. I...

Re: Newly diagnosed stage 4 colon cancer at 42. Looking for hope and inspiration.

I was diagnosed with cancer during the caesarean birth of my daughter and discovered I was Stage IV 6 days later on my 39th birthday. That baby just turned 10 and I have been NED for 9 1/2 years. There is hope. When I was first diagnosed all I wanted to know was that long-term survival was possible ...

Re: Any Stage IV currently in NEDville? Please share any advice or tips? P

I was reading through your posts and thought how funny it was that we sounded so similar. If I didn't know better I almost would have thought you were me and I was you! Like you I also write (wrote) down stories of people I came across that had long-term survival. At the beginning I would pull out t...

Re: I need a little hope

PPD, Just had my 8 year scan at MSK this morning. Will get the results later this week on the portal and will see my doctor next week. I had 5 liver mets across both lobes and a local doctor here in NJ gave me discouragement about survival back in 2008 when I was diagnosed. So, I found another docto...

Re: Ovarian Cyst Question

FB, I have had ovarian cysts practically every scan. They switch sides depending upon the month and a few that I've had lead my onc to order a trans-vaginal ultrasound. She says it's not because she's worried it's anything but that she knew I would worry regardless. The ultrasounds always have come ...

Re: Advice/Insight Please - Wife Just Diagnosed

Jeremy, Congratulations on the birth of your boys! I am so sorry that a time that should be so joyous in your lives be impacted by the worry of a Stage IV colon cancer diagnosis. I was in your wife's shoes 8 years ago when our last child was born. She was delivered via c-section and through the surg...

Re: how patient should you be

Mike, Dr. Kemeny at MSK is the person to see, especially with multiple small mets that would hopefully respond to resection and HAI. I remember as clear as anything the day 2/09/09 when I went to see Dr. Kemeny for scan results after 4 treatments (FOLFOX). Saw her on that Monday and she said my mets...

Re: Folflox - Cardiac arrest after 3rd treatment / 35 y/o m

During my second treatment after liver/colon resection (my 7th overall treatment) I started to feel what I can only describe as "weird" and a heavy metallic taste in my mouth. I asked my sister to get the nurse who was 10 steps away and I was in cardiac arrest by the time they returned 20 ...

Re: Newly Diagnosed wife - Stage 4 w Liver Mets

Sotorey, I need to get ready for our anniversary dinner or else I would post more but your post caught my eye and I thought I would post a quick reply. My 5 liver mets were spread across my liver. The largest was 5.3 cm at the time of diagnosis. My consult at Memorial Sloan Kettering indicated that ...

Cptmac,

Since I joined in 2008 you have always been an inspiration to me. I am so happy for you! I also discovered I had Stage IV on my birthday so I feel we have that in common. I am only 4 1/2 years behind you in Nedville. Best wishes to you now and always.

Re: Is deaccess on day 5 rather than 3 a problem?

Steph, Not sure about whether deaccess would be appropriate for day 5 but did want to mention that my husband always removed my port needle after the 5FU was finished. Basically he would clean the area, run alcohol and heparin through the line and then simply remove the needle from the port. Took hi...

Re: Another Year in the Books

Annemiek, My children were 5, 3 and newborn when I was diagnosed. My husband and I made the decision to not tell the older children about my diagnosis. My sister and mother-in-law covered for me during my absences and we told them I had eye surgery for when I was in the hospital for my big surgery. ...

Re: Dr. Kemeny's Patients

Kathy, My NED is only 4 months behind your own. I was diagnosed in 11/08 but had my HAI pump and surgery in 2/09 and have been NED since. I saw Dr. K last Monday to get my yearly scan results and I brought her a beautiful orchid. I called my husband after to tell him about my appointment (he didn't ...

Another Year in the Books

Had my yearly CT scan and an Ultrasound to watch my thyroid on this past Monday. Checked the MSK portal all week for the reports to post and they finally did post last night while my husband and I were enjoying dinner and some wine. After 7 years and 4 months, I remain in remission from my Stage IV ...
