Re: there are angels among us

Dont forget to include among those angels the friends who write something that makes you laugh -- even though no one knew you were having a miserable day. Skypup, you have been that angel for me more than once. Often here, we cry until we have no tears left. Thank God, there is still a little laught...

Re: 2014 ASCO Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium

Vicki, Your sweet note made me cry. In my head, I've been comparing the general mood of this forum to when I joined 6 years ago. Yes, too often there is still fear, pain, sadness and loss; but these threads about immunology and clinical trials have injected some hope into our common future. Praying ...

Re: Colon cancer mets to Ovary

Still here, EIGHT YEARS after original dx of colon cancer with liver and ovarian mets. Had colon resection in June of 06, followed by 4 rounds of chemo, then had hysterectomy and liver resection, followed by more chemo. All those parts don't seem to be a bother, but at the time of dx, there were als...

Re: 2014 ASCO Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium

Does anyone wonder how we spent our spare time before we had to help research our own disease? And then there are the wonderful friends (Maia) and family like Vicki and Grouseman who have taken on such huge jobs trying to help the ones they love. Especially to those friends and family doing research...

Re: 8th birthday today

Helen, Congratulations on the big 08! Life is hard, it sucks at times but it is also pretty great at other times..so if the great/good times outnumber the bad then you have won. I like that one. It means I'm still winning, and I hope you are, too. Go do something wonderful for yourself today. Best w...

Re: Does anything help with the coughing?

I'm dealing with lung mets too and steroid treatments too, so I know about the cough as well as the hoarseness. I've just about given up trying to talk on the phone because it's so annoying having to repeat myself when I can't hardly talk anyway. I take a cough medicine that has both hydrocodone and...

Don't have enough white to wear it all month (if I could quit losing and gaining weight on a regular basis, it wouldn't be as complicated to find clothes!), but I will be sure to wear it this Friday when I go to see my oncologist. He will be very impressed. He is already impressed with you, Maia. di...

Re: Balancing Between ‘Rational’ and ‘Rationed’ Care

There are few things I've read that are as scary as this (about cost control, not about Vicki in the parking lot).

Vicki, when you meet the so-and-so in the parking lot, we'll be right there with you.

I'm not a vengeful person, but that nurse needs to have a serious come-to-Jesus meeting. What she did to you was wrong on so many levels. I know you've got a lot on your plate now, and there are so many other things more important, but I hope you get the chance to talk to her and the surgeon togethe...

I have just tried 15 days on fentanyl patches, I left the last patch on to help wean me off it. Another nasty drug. Ron, Why do you say fentanyl is nasty? I've just started using fentanyl patches. Today is the 12th day in a row with them. They worked fine for the first few, then I did something tha...

Re: Please no more miracle cure talks

Over seven years ago, when I was in the early days of my first line of chemo treatment, someone I used to work with --and thought highly of at the time -- sent me an email that the cure for cancer is already known and that the "government and big pharma" were keeping it from the general pu...

Connie, In my experience, diarrhea is very common with irinotecan (the big gun ingredient in FOLFIRI). The chemo nurses have a special dosage of immodium they recommend that it totally different from what is on the box. They can also prescribe lomotil. Immodium always seems to work too well for me, ...

Re: DCVax-Direct: First Case Study Announced

Maia, I am highly needle-phobic. Can't stand to look at one. I had a needle biopsy on one breast years ago that was just a cyst, but haven't needed anything since then. I'm not sure I could describe the location of the various lung nodules I have, but I would think at least some of them would be dif...
