Re: Worsening Neuropathy

Linda has used a description similar to the wet sand one. Her biggest concern is that it will become hard to walk if it continues to worsen and she sometimes has trouble holding on to things. It has now been 12 years since her treatment. Back then no one realized it could be permanent and she was to...

Worsening Neuropathy

My wife developed Neuropathy during treatment with Oxaliplatin in 2003. Though she has been off treatment for years, the neuropathy got worse after treatment ended and has continued to increase in the years since. We haven't kept up with new information on treatments. Have there been any new studies...

Re: Lung/Chest Questions

Linda has had several false positives over the years. A couple of years ago she had a 9mm spot show up on a a PET/CT scan which was reported as high probability of Metastatic Cancer. Her Doctors were talking surgery, but since it was in a location they couldn't biopsy we had repeated scans over a 3 ...

Re: Chemo teaching nurse said I didn't need emla or lidocaine?

Linda has had her Port for 7 years and has never used the cream or freezing. Her Oncology nurses access it with very little pain, but it has been very painful a few times she has had it accessed at the hospital. Apparently there is some skill involved in accessing them. She was a person who could no...

Re: WHO ARE THOSE GUYS? (teaching hospital)

Teaching hospitals can be an experience, but care is also better than some private hospitals. When my wife had our youngest son by C-Section the room was full of nursing students, one of which collapsed and had to be taken care of when they started the incision. Worst care we have experienced was at...

Re: HELP!!! Medicare vs. Private Insurance

It is too common of situation. Linda and I lost all of our insurance when I was fired after injuring my back. My disability is also too high for Medicaid and since she was on Medicaid while I was fighting for disability, she will not be eligible for the pre-existing coverage which isn't good anyway...

Re: victim of Roche vs Bayer CEA measuring

Linda's CEA jumped up to 8.5 and her Oncologist wouldn't order a scan. He is assuming since she has been twice that in the past without cancer this is the same. Unfortunately we are now uninsured so can't even have the test repeated.

Re: Onc wont do labs because I have an outstanding balance.

This is an all to common problem. My wife and I are both without insurance which is made worse by her last lab work which showed her CEA up to 8.5. Trying to get Medicaid back for her but she lost it when I was awarded Social Security Disability. We have had them come out in a crowded waiting room a...

Re: CT results - nonspecific opacity in lung?

A couple of years ago my wife Linda had a 9mm lung nodule show up on a PET/CT scan. Though the radiologist and her Oncologist thought it was cancer, it was not in a place that could be biopsied. After waiting 3 months it was gone and they decided it was an infection. These kinds of test results are ...

Re: DH has been admitted to the hospital

My wife Linda was not diagnosed until she developed a complete blockage. She was immediately admitted to the hospital and had surgery four days later after they stabilized her and pumped as much as they could out of her stomach. She recovered okay after the surgery, but had additional damage from th...

Re: Something new to deal with

Pay attention to the muscle cramps. For Linda they are a sign that her Potassium is dropping and that she needs to take more or have her levels checked. Usually as soon as she gets her potassium levels back up the muscle cramping goes away. She can't go without her diuretic as last time she ran out ...

Re: Something new to deal with

Linda's Oncologist has told us that Magnesium levels are critical for maintaining Potassium at the correct level. She has taken it also at times, but magnesium can contribute to the problems with Diarrhea and make the situation worse. Balancing the side effects of all the drugs and supplements can g...

Linda will reach 7 years next month. As you noted many don't keep posting after awhile and I find that we are much less involved with the lists as time go on.

Re: Like your health plan? You may not get to keep it

An additional problem with current system. When I lost my insurance my two youngest daughters also lost theirs as I was covering them. Recently they both tried to get their own insurance. The youngest one signed up for a policy with Aetna and went to an appointment for a physical. It was discovered ...
