Re: Anyone been allergic to their ostomy appliance?

My husband had this problem almost immediately. After much trial and error we found he was allergic to the adhesive on the back of the wafer. He now uses non-adhesive barriers with paste and tapes them all around the sides with micropore tape. He also stopped using the prep wipes and uses only mild ...

Re: R.I.P. Pat Burns

I couldn't agree more. My husband has rectal cancer that has metastasized to his lungs. He does not have lung cancer!! We are hockey fans who have listened to the media describe Pat Burn's cancer for years as first colon cancer, then liver cancer and finally lung cancer. To most this is not a big de...

Re: Happy Thanksgiving eh!!!

that's Norwegian, not Canadian in general, but there are Norwegian communities that eat lefse and lutefisk at Christmas. I think a lot of turkeys were eaten this weekend.

Re: really, does any of this work?

My husband is the patient, not me, but I can tell you his experience. Tomorrow he will have his 47th round of folfiri ( irinotecan plus 5 FU). It has shrunk his lung tumors and kept them stable. He has no side effects other than fatigue. He knows he is fortunate to tolerate this drug so well. Maybe ...

Re: Anyone heard of the Reishi Mushroom?

Hi Candy, My husband has been taking a mushroom extract, including reishi among others, for as long as he's been on chemo. He's been on folfiri plus avastin for a total of 43 treatments. I don't know if it's from the mushrooms but he has never had any serious side effects or missed a treatment due t...

Re: Waiting for the shoe to drop....

My husband has now completed 43 treatments of Folfiri with Avastin. He has always felt good except for minor stomach upset, slight diarrhea, which is easily controlled, and of course tiredness. His hair has thinned and he does have to take it easy but he is good, all things considered. I hope you ha...

Re: Help, please!

Dry sugar worked for my husband but it was the decadron that caused the hiccups. Once he stopped that, the hiccups stopped. They just were intolerable for him, the worst side effect he has ever had and he has had 33 treatments with folfiri.
Good luck.

Re: Canadian health care - re: What happened to Wendy thread.

The Canadian Health Care System Works I'm sorry you have such a negative opinion. I don't think you have offered a balanced , honest assessment of the Canadian Health Care System. I see you live in Winnipeg, we are in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I find it hard to believe that health care can differ so ...

Re: Anyone had more than 12 FOLFIRI/Avastin treatments?

My husband just today completed his 22nd folfiri/avastin treatment. He has never missed a treatment and his blood tests all remain very good. His only side effect is tiredness and a bit of a runny nose. His last cat scan shows a 40 percent reduction in lung tumours and no additional disease so dr. w...

Re: How to shower with a PICC???

We are also in Canada. The doctor said picc and we asked for a port instead and he said sure. My husband has had two put in...the first moved after 12 treatments. both times they used only local anesthetic and versed. Around here a lot of people with picc's also use vet gloves.

Re: Chemo Pump - annoying!

My husband has a pump that is completely silent. It is a small thing taped to his skin (about 1 inch) and the nurse says it runs on the heat of your body. We're in Canada so I don't know if that makes any difference.

We're in Saskatchewan and it is covered here. They just started to cover it last year. There was a lot of public pressure before it was added. My husband is on avastin.

Re: Cat Scan Results

Hi Eve, My husband is on folfiri plus leucovorin and avastin for lung mets so that is pretty much the same mix as you will have. He has had almost no problems aside from some tiredness. He has had seven treatments and will have three more before he has another cat scan. He has 12 mets spread all ove...
