Re: Could it be back?

Thank you for your replies, they helped settle me somewhat. (we're in the UK for reference) His CNS spoke to the surgeon who requested a qFIT test as the first point of call so he's sent that off and we're awaiting results. Very anxious to be honest, it feels like it did the first time round and I c...

Could it be back?

My Husband's story so far is below...in short he was Stage 3 back in October 2020, had curative surgery and 3 months of CAPOX. He's had a clear colonoscopy at 1yr, 2 clear CTs at 9m and 18m, his CEA has always been 'in range' BUT it has steadily been rising the past 3 times. His nurse specialist tea...

Re: Fertility after Stage 3 Surgery and Chemo

I realise this is a month old but I don't come here often and wanted to offer my congratulations. It's nice to see that cancer isn't putting a stop to your family plans. I didn't have chemo in the end but still went through the sperm banking before it was decided that I wouldn't, and ultimately had...

Thank you so much! We're still can't believe how lucky we are.

Ready to embrace the dirty diapers for sure!

Fertility after Stage 3 Surgery and Chemo

Some of you may have seen my posts from my Husbands journey and how worried we were about fertility post surgery and chemo. I'm sharing this for other younger people who may have similar worries. In Oct 2020 he had LAR surgery to remove a rectal tumour and it was found he had lymph node involvement ...

Re: Stage 3, likelihood of recurrence after resection & chemotherapy

Hi there, Thank you so much for your posts and the reassurance!! He just had the results from his CEA blood test (take last week)... It's 1.1...so it has risen a bit since the last test. Bit anxious about that. Prior to his surgery it was only 2.7 at its highest, post surgery and during chemo it was...

Re: Stage 3, likelihood of recurrence after resection & chemotherapy

August 2021

First surveillance CT scan was CLEAR :D

A huge relief for us to hear that news! And it felt like the last hurdle before we start trying for a baby in September!

I hope you're all doing well and powering on with your journeys xx

Re: Stage 3, likelihood of recurrence after resection & chemotherapy

July 2021 UPDATE... In April, he had a good CEA tracker result of 0.7...which is consistent with his previous results so that was a big relief. Since finishing chemo we've pretty much gone back to normal, he's back at the gym 3x a week (as he has been since January). Thankfully he's had no lasting s...

Re: From what point are you 'NED'?

I’ve always wondered this as well! I’ve been counting since his first CT scan after treatment, but knowing I get to count since his surgery means he’s technically now 3 years NED which makes me feel better about his current scan. Thanks for creating the post LivinginHope! It's something I don't rec...

Re: From what point are you 'NED'?

Thank you all! I had a feeling (and hoped) it would be from the date of curative surgery! Husband thought it may have been from the end of first full round of surveillance but I tried to explain that that probably wouldn't work (or be accurate!) when his CEA tracker, CT and Colonoscopy are in April,...

From what point are you 'NED'?

Hi all, My husband finished 4 rounds of Adjuvant chemotherapy (CAPOX) last week. He now has no more active treatment (forever hopefully!). His surveillance starts in April with a 6 monthly CEA blood tests. This will be every 6m for 3yrs. He will then have a CT scan in July - I believe this will be e...

Re: Stage 3, likelihood of recurrence after resection & chemotherapy

I would try not to think of it as "risky". In my opinion not doing the recommended treatment would be risky. He did what was suggested for the best chance for a positive outcome. I was anxious to get some semblance of normalcy back after 6 months of chemo. That's not to say I didn't have ...

Re: Stage 3, likelihood of recurrence after resection & chemotherapy

I remember being where you both are in the journey. The thing that would upset me the most was the thought of something happening to me and my niece not even remembering me. Now I'm happy to report I've done a good job being the crazy/fun uncle. There can be brighter days ahead. It's a really hard ...

Re: Stage 3, likelihood of recurrence after resection & chemotherapy

Really happy he's almost done with treatment. I won't sugar coat things. That fear of it coming back is always in the back of my mind. BUT it used to be almost paralyzing and now I can go a good stretch of time without thinking about cancer. That used to seem unthinkable to me. Thank you so much an...

Re: Stage 3, likelihood of recurrence after resection & chemotherapy

Cycle 4 is underway! He had his Oxaliplatin infusion on Tuesday and is currently approaching the first weekend. The 1st cycle he was really tired by the first weekend but the 2nd and 3rd cycles weren't anywhere near as bad for fatigue. We're waiting to see how this one goes but so far so good! We ar...
