Re: what are the odds of getting cancer?

I gave one stat without giving another that is also important to this discussion: again from ACS (http://www.cancer.org/Cancer/CancerBasics/cancer-prevalence), in 2006 there were 11 million people living in the US who had been diagnosed with some form of cancer. Given that the US population crossed ...

Re: what are the odds of getting cancer?

Wish the numbers were better than what they are. I heard this on the radio the other day and couldn't believe it, but here it is from the American Cancer Society (http://www.cancer.org/Cancer/CancerBasics/lifetime-probability-of-developing-or-dying-from-cancer): 44.29% of men and 37.76% of women wil...

Stage I - when do I have my next colonoscopy?

OK, I was diagnosed Stage I last year, had my resection and have finally made it through my post-surgical complications (a MRSA infection and a hernia repair). So when should I have my next colonoscopy? GI doc has me down for 3 years from last colonoscopy. Some of my friends think that a one year co...

Re: Diagnosis Age Breakdown

Just so everyone knows my background as well, I was diagnosed Stage I at age 45 (so still under age 50) last year. I had no symptoms. So why was I getting a colonoscopy in the first place? My sister was diagnosed Stage IV at age 31 (in 1992) and died 18 months later, just shy of her 33rd birthday. S...

Re: Ugh!! Say it isn't so.....

My two cents worth. I had the Fleets Phospho Soda and experienced no problems. It was my understanding that although you can't purchase it over the counter, you can still obtain the product via a script. However, I may be wrong on that. I do believe the problem with the Fleet's wasn't necessarily d...

Re: How long were you in the hospital after surgery.

I was expected to be in for four days (laparoscopic resection), but it wound up being eight days. First, my colon function was slow to return and second I had a post-op infection of my main incision, which required three days of antibiotics and wound care after discharge. Still having post-op issues...

Dealing with a MRSA infection

Had my surgery in July. Three weeks ago, I had the first sore appear on my main incision. Doctor didn't have any concern at that point. Had two more sores in the next two weeks, inlcuding one on a 1/4 inch secondarary incision. At the next visit, my doctor took a swap of the sores. I now find out I ...

Re: Update: Colonoscopy Results in and GREAT!

That is AWESOME news Ginger! Keep on checking though if it is in your family, DO NOT FORGET! Happy Dance for you! Let me second both of Liz's sentiments. First that is great news. Second keep on checking!!! Due to family history (sister diagonsed stage IV at age 31), I got my first screening (a sig...

Re: Curious, What made you get a colonoscopy?

My sister was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in 1992, and died 18 months later just before her 33rd birthday in 1993. I was almost 31 at the time of her death. Therefore, her oncologist recommended early screening for me. I finally got up the nerve to have a sigmoidoscopy in 1995. (Doctor thou...
