Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Just thought I ll update the thread since I have had so many of you answer my naive questions. Thank you for that first. After considering W&W and all the inputs from you wonderful folks, we spoke to a few surgeons and med oncs and decided to get the surgery done. Surgery was done well into 13th...

Re: Dad diagnosed last week, stage iv with innumerable mets

Hang in there brandon10, and so good to see you got your dad's back. I know it's tough, but try to be positive For me meditating and praying have always helped. Remember more positive you are the more confident your dad will be and that's good for his recovery. I pray you will get out of this soon a...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Thx CRGuy and Jolene for your valuable responses. For now we are leaning towards the surgery route after talking to few medical / surgical oncos. Also, the burden of Covid19 weighs on our mind should we go the surgical route immediately or wait few months (We are in India where covid19 has now start...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

If I'm not mistaken, I believe a lot of patients who have the surgery also have mop-up chemo. Depending upon Stage, location, grade, mets or other "questionnables" I would have to say the answer is generally YES to adjuvant chemo of some sort after resection..... SO you are not mistaken !...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Thx nifty624 and prs for your responses, we have been advised LAR as well, however the second surgeon we met says we are a good candidate for W&W and need to follow up with investigations after 2 months from today which puts us at mid of August. After that if all clear, then it would be every 3 ...

Re: W&W or Surgery Dilemma

Why go through the surgery, and more to the point the probability of life-altering after-effects if not necessary? If it were me I think I'd go for watch and wait in the circumstances. If she has quarterly scans, and they eventually pick something up, she could opt for surgery then. This is purely ...

W&W or Surgery Dilemma

Hi folks, My second post here, some background, TL;DR please read my signature. my mom was DX with a rectal tumor on 8th Feb 2020. Her CT and MRI confirmed it is node +ve(2 perirectal nodes upto 6mm). CT also mentioned a Liver hemangioma and a Ground Glass Nodule (GGN)in Lung. However they both said...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Awesome news Jolene! Happy for you. In a dilemma myself after onc surgeon says get surgery on the safer side. As biopsy during flex sig following a neoadjuvant or preop chemoradiotherapy(1500mg cap per day plus 50.4 gy in 28 days) said negative for disease, even an mri and pet ct done four months ap...

Re: Xeloda dosing and newbie questions. Please help

Thanks JJH, the cap pills given were 500mg and the doc told us 3 in the morning and 2 in the night . Sorry for not being clear before and yes this was given as a radio sensitising agent we were told: So would you think that in a neo-adjuvant setting, as a radio sensitizing agent, Xeloda dose of 150...

Re: Xeloda dosing and newbie questions. Please help

... I am worried after reading many posts here on Xeloda dosing as most seem to have a 3000mg per day. I know it's weight dependant and she's around 68kgs or 150lbs... ...My mom is 150lbs and 5.3 ft as I noted in my previous reply which I am not sure has been approved yet. ...She is around 150lbs a...

Re: Xeloda dosing and newbie questions. Please help

As JJH said, I believe one driving factor is the weight of the person. My Wife started out with 3500 mg/day. But was reduced to 3000 mg/day due to hand/foot syndrome. She stayed on Xeloda+Avastin from Aug 2018 to Feb 2019 with slight progression. Near Feb 2019, we could tell progression was getting...

Re: Xeloda dosing and newbie questions. Please help

Welcome to the Forum, and thanks for preparing a signature in advance. You have 2 questions, but I'll start with the first one. To answer the first one, we need to know both your mother's weight and her height. This is needed in order to calculate Body Surface Area which in turn is needed to calcul...
