Caregiver and Insomniac

I am a caregiver of my 53yo husband who has stage 3 colon cancer. His tumor was removed and he is now on Xeloda (he refused the IV cocktail treatment). He has diabetes (found out about a month before we found the tumor) and high blood pressure. He is in constant pain. It is either gas, nueopathy(sp)...

Re: Back pain

Other than the bone met, you sound exactly like my husband. Since his surgery in August, he has had horrible back pain. It's his lower back, right around his left kidney. He has had PET scans, CAT scans and xrays, but there is no "reason" for him to be experiencing this type of pain. He ev...

Re: I am in trouble here...in deep despair....help!!!

Being alive with no quality of life is not living. Now I am not saying to stop everything, but maybe you and your oncologist can work out a new strategy that will allow you to heal and feel more human. My husband is IIIa and eats pain pills and laxatives every day. He has told me numerous times how ...

Re: Staples vs Super Glue unscientific survey

Hubby was stapled and stitched on the inside, but glued on the outside. He was very thankful there was nothing to remove!

Re: Husband in Extreme Pain - Need Advice Please

DH's doctor told him to start adding more fiber into his diet to help add some bulk. A week or two ago dr. also suggested he start taking benefiber once a day. He really isn't "doing" a set diet and that might be part of the problem. He still is having bowel movements, but he might not go ...

Husband in Extreme Pain - Need Advice Please

My DH had a colon resection on Aug. 25th to remove a fairly large tumor. He had a laporoscopic surgery and recovered beautifully...in fact he was mowing the lawn two weeks afterwards. For the past few weeks he has been experiencing extreme pain in his gut - right where the resection was. This seems ...

Re: Treatment Milestones

Hi All. Yes, hubby had surgery and then had a PET scan, which was clean. He is starting on Xeloda for a 6 month cycle to kill any germies left floating in his body. The oncologist is NOT recommending any type of scan after he finishes the chemo treatment. This is what I don't understand. No scans, n...

Treatment Milestones

Hi All. My DH is starting his Xeloda treatment today and he asked his oncologist what milestones there were for the treatment. His doctor told him there were none and he didn't need another scan (his first PET scan after surgery was clean) after he finishes his 6 month treatment unless they notice s...

Re: Board Changes - EVERYONE please read!

I think this is a great idea! A support site like this doesn't need to deal with trolls, we have enough to deal with as it is!

Re: Chemo - IV or Pill?

Thank you both. The oncologist said he would need a port installed under the skin and have 9 to 12 rounds of the oxalipatin and 5FU cocktail. It would be administered over a 48hr period with a pump (I think it was just the 5FU in the pump). DH said he would not use a pump and would not do anything t...

Chemo - IV or Pill?

My husband has been diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer at this point (haven't had a PET done yet). Tumor was removed and 2 of 18 lymph nodes were malignant. We met the oncologist for the first time today. He went over the treatment options and believed that the oxalipatin and 5FU cocktail via IV ...

Re: What can I tell his best friend?

Look, when you have cancer, your energy goes down the drain. He's not pouting; he's saving his energy for the things he really wants to do, like this bike ride. I've got to agree with this! My DH doesn't have a lot of energy and is also on the toilet A LOT, so we have to pick and choose what we can...

Hubby having surgery tomorrow

Hello All. My husband was diagnosed (via colonoscopy) with a malignant tumor in his sigmoid colon. He is scheduled for surgery tomorrow to remove the tumor and perform a bowel resection. I am very nervous (okay I am damn right scared) and was hoping for prayers to come our way. This board has given ...
