Red Wine

Hello everyone. I was DX'd 2007 with Stage 3 colorectal, and NED since March 2008. (VERY grateful). (had 5FU/Radiation/Surgery/6months Folfox) I love Red Wine, BUT, I also want to be SMART. What do you know about current research regarding alcohol, specifically red wine, after being given a "cl...

Re: rectal muscle control - radiation

Metameusil is a miracle fiber to me. Slows down motility, promotes a greater sense of emptying....I was DX'd in 2007 and use it 2-3 times a day (powder form dissolved in water)....still have multiple BM's per day, but I have much greater sense of control over my life....

Re: Adjuvant Chemo Question

It's important to differentiate overall chemo from Oxi. The most commonly used approach when I was Dx'd was 28 radiation/5FU treatments. (2007). Some places were giving Oxi PRIOR to surgery, but most were not, at that time. In consulting with Dr. Lenz, at USC Norris, he was beginning to use Oxi PRIO...

Re: Life after The Bag

My reversal was in May 2008. It has been an "experience". First 3-4 months, I felt tethered to the bathroom, now, with planning, I don't really worry about it. There are definitely times where I get clusters - but I use MetaMeusil (2-3 times a day) and Immodium (from time to time) , to mak...

Re: No more oxi for me - "old school" chemo

I had 11 of 12 folfox and then had the last chemo no oxi. I was in no shape to have more. I think that most oncologists will tell you that if they have to back off, they do and they don't worry about the outcome being that different...I'm 2 years out from chemo and doing fine. (other than foot neuro...

Re: Reverse Temp Ileo before or after Chemo?

I had 12 x folfox 6 after my LAR and temp ileo and was ok with it. I was glad when the reversal happened but in "hind sight", it was best for me to have the bag while I got chemo...

Re: My 1st post

Yes diet is a big one. I had rectal cancer Dx March 2007. 6 wks. Rad/%FU, then LAR, temp ileo. and 12 x Folofox 6. Takedown was May 2008. I have found that time DOES make a difference, but there are some things that work for me that I will share. First, eat smaller meals and eat 5-6 times a day. Foc...

Re: Neuropathy 6 months post chemo - normal?

I had 12x Folfox 6 from October 2007-March 2008. Almost 2 years out and I have severe neuropathy in my feet, VERY mild in my fingers (not a problem) and clean scans. Neuropathy is caused by the death of nerve cells from Oxi. It typically comes on after chemo is completed, but everyone is different. ...

Re: Low White Blood Count

I was on Folfox 6 - finished in March 2008. (12 treatments). Around January 2008, I needed to get Neupogen shots that made the white count go up nicely, with no other effects. Talk to your oncologist. Unless there are other issues, the shots should get your white counts up to allow more therapy.

Re: neuropathy just at night?

Neuropathy is a totally separate issue. It is caused by the platinum in the oxalipltin component of Folfox. I have severe neuropathy in my feet and I am almost 2 years out from completing Folfox 6 (12x)...my tests have all been fine
