Re: Colorectal surgeon rec. needed, Camdenton, MO

Thanks so much for these links, JJH. I had started doing the same research after I posted my question and came up with some of those names, and I also limited my search to both Columbia and Springfield, MO as you did. I also focused on board certified colorectal surgeons. With your research and my o...

Colorectal surgeon rec. needed, Camdenton, MO

I learned so much on this discussion forum in 2007 and 2008 which I really appreciated. Today, I heard from a dear friend who lives near Camdenton, Missouri and her husband just had a colonoscopy that showed a mass. He's scheduled for a CT scan on March 9 but my friend is already looking ahead to po...

Re: Ileostomy help....

I went through very frustrating periods of leaking when I had my ileostomy and got help from an ostomy nurse, especially when my peristomal skin started having some irritation and a small open area. I also received a lot of advice, support, and information on UOAA's (United Ostomy Associations of Am...

Re: The Ileostomy Bag Blues

When I had a temporary ileostomy for 10 months, I went through a number of periods where my appliance leaked every day for sometimes a week at a time, and I never stopped being paranoid about leaking--to some extent-- until my ileostomy was reversed. I bought a cloth pad from CVS that I slept on eve...

Re: Bowel Prep Lawsuits

Thanks so much for the info on OsmoPrep still being available, weisssoccermom! I also drank extra the day before and day of the prep because I was so concerned about getting enough fluid that the pill prep requires. Members on this forum also provided info about it as you have. I just figured if law...

Re: Bowel Prep Lawsuits

Janklo, I'm not surprised that OsmoPrep's no longer available. The risks obviously outweigh the benefits, unfortunately. I just hope that someone somewhere is working on inventing another pill prep. Terry-- Thanks! I forgot about Miralax. I took that for my first surgery mixed with an entire bottle ...

Bowel Prep Lawsuits

Yesterday, I came across an article entitled "Is There a Rising Tide of Bowel Prep Lawsuits?" with the subtitle "Patients who suffered kidney damage before a black box warning are suing OsmoPrep." Article is found here: http://www.outpatientsurgery.net/news/2010/03/28 From the fi...

Re: takedown success with partial rectum and no Rad. ?

Of course everybody and every body is different, but I had Stage I with no chemo or rad. and because of a surgical error, I had an ileostomy for 10 months and a total of 4 additional surgeries in less than a year because of the error, and have less than 1/3 of my rectum remaining. I was pretty well ...

Re: Some good news and a question about workouts

Congratulations on your CT and CEA results and on feeling good again! I'm sorry I don't have any answers to your question of exercising with a colostomy, but I wanted to encourage you to also try asking the question over at UOAA found here: http://www.uoaa.org/forum/index.php or here: http://www.ost...

Re: Sleeping through the night with an active stoma!?

For the 10 months I had my ileostomy, I always had to get up to empty from 1 to 3 times/night. I was told by my surgeon that I could take Imodium at bedtime, but I never did. I learned to get up and empty through half-closed eyes and to get back to sleep most times, fortunately. It was good preparat...

Re: Need antidepressant advice...

I took Paxil for a year and 1/2 and didn't like that it seemed to numb me. I was dealing with anxiety issues and it helped those somewhat as well as my tendency to have obsessive thoughts, but some of the side effects bothered me enough to quit taking it (and the weaning off process seemed to take f...

Re: bowl control during colonoscopy prep

does anyone know why there is a red star when I post ??? The red star means that you've posted on a thread. I used the OsmoPrep pills for my colonoscopy and felt well-cleaned out and the doctor was pleased by what he could see during the procedure. With all the different preps I've done, my final o...
