Re: Any others with pathologic mutation of ATM gene?

Thank you so much for responding! With my family's breast cancer history and the ATM mutation, the recommendation for me was to begin taking an aromatase inhibitor and having breast MRI and mammograms every year (at six month intervals; MRI, then six months later mammogram, then six months later MRI...

Any others with pathologic mutation of ATM gene?

When I was diagnosed with CRC 10 years ago at age 49, no genetic testing was offered because there was no family history of CRC. Fast forward 9 years to my younger sister being diagnosed with breast cancer at age 52. We do have some family history of breast cancer, so my sister did receive genetic t...

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Jonathan Efron at Johns Hopkins! Great surgeon, and a really nice person.

Re: Rectovaginal fistula

Hi Joanne, I'm sorry that you're dealing with the fistula. If you have not already done so, you may want to contact Johns Hopkins second opinion service: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/second_opinion/ Dr. Jonathan Efron was the surgeon who repaired my fistula, and I can't say enough wonderful things...

Re: Why I stopped posting

Thank you. I so wanted to post something along those lines. Life, even at its best, has challenges. We can be beyond grateful to be alive, yet still have problems that are hard. Could things be worse? Almost always, the answer is "yes." Still doesn't make the bad things suck any less. I am...

Re: Big Baby or Normal?

Hi Judy, I remember thinking how odd it was that Xeloda came in the mail! "Here is your box of chemo, ma'am. Have a nice day." Something so significant for me arriving in such an everyday way...... As for physical reactions, mine were pretty minimal. I hope that yours will be, too. I've ne...

Re: Why Does Peripheral Neuropathy Start After Chemotherapy is Complete?

For Ipas --- I didn't take L-Glutamine during treatment. I hope that it helps you avoid the neuropathy. FWIW -- the person who did my EMG said that he has seen "chemotherapy-related" neuropathy begin up to 3 years after the completion of treatment. No studies; just his experience. Thanks t...

Re: Why Does Peripheral Neuropathy Start After Chemotherapy is Complete?

HI Testing765, Sorry to hear that you're dealing with this. I wish I could give you an answer --- I'm on my own journey to find out why peripheral neuropathy started 3 years after my last chemo. Like you, I had the extreme sensitivity to cold during the first week or so after oxaliplatin. What I'm e...

I "introduced" myself in a response to crockpotgirl's post (thank you, crockpotgirl ----- and my very belated apologies for highjacking your thread  ). Crockpotgirl very graciously responded and then dear Terry welcomed me.

Re: Chemo - the gift that also (like radiation) keeps on giv

Thank you for this thread! It speaks directly to things I am trying to figure out now. I am beyond grateful for my life, and would have undergone treatment just as I did if I had to make those choices again. That does not make it any less frustrating to be chasing down solutions to seemingly unrelat...
