Re: Newly diagnosed

Two weeks is not long to wait. As my colorectal surgeon said "these things grow like trees". It's hard when newly diagnosed and scared, but try to busy yourself with other things while you wait. It's summertime. Try to enjoy it! 8)

Re: Permanent Colostomy - Quality of Life

I have had my permanent colostomy since last year. I have had several medical professionals ask if it can be reversed, and when I say "no, it is permanent", they tell me how sorry they are for me. I'm not sorry about it at all. I no longer have to spend time in the bathroom, no longer have...

I saw it today too. Definitely thought-provoking and brings back memories of how I felt going through the ordeal. My favorite part of the whole movie? The last two words: "now what"

Ooohhhh, not fun not fun! This is something I don't miss with my colostomy.

I'll be praying that it resolves on it's own.

Re: Xelox versus Folfox 4: Which is better and why?

There is a shortage of 5-FU (part of the Folfox regimen) which may be why they automatically said they would use Xelox. Xelox is the oral equivelent of 5-FU and is preferred by many although neither one appears to be better than the other. The advange of Xelox is that you will not have the need to c...

Re: Port out after 12 rnds of chemo. should I ask for a sca

I completed my 8 rounds of Folfox in July, had a clean PET scan 3 weeks after treatment ended, and the port is coming out TOMORROW! I had so many problems with the first port that I don't want this one with me longer than necessary. The clots and pain in the arm/shoulder/neck from the first port was...

Re: Easing neuropathy during Folfox?

I did the L-Glutamine, B6, Vit D, and Vit C, all on my oncologist's recommendation. I did not exercise as I just didn't have the energy or desire to do it. I was, however, very busy on my off weeks with working part-time a few days, catching up on housework/laundry, making sure we had groceries for ...

As someone who has had plenty of those digital exams due to a low-lying tumor, this really tickled my funny bone! Sorry for the pain, but thanks for the laugh!

Re: Pre-Operative Chemoration for colorectal cancer: Advice

I had 28 treatments and no scans or exams during treatment. I too worried that it was doing its job, but a physical exam a few weeks after treatment showed that the tumor was greatly reduced (it started out at 5-7 cm) and it continued to shrink until surgery. At the time of surgery, there was no lon...

Re: Newbie seeking advise

Hi Cathdawg and welcome to the Club. You are welcome here and your brother as well. It is a great place to learn about the disease and to find answers on what to expect and how to deal with side effects as well as a place to vent as we have all been there and understand. I just read Jaynee's post an...
