Re: 5 months post LAR / Mucus in stools

Thank you for your response! I saw my colorectal surgeon last Thursday. In person he still was not terribly concerned about the mucus. He feels if I bulk up my stool more with fiber that my intermittent pain and mucous might resolve. He stated that the only way to truly determine if there is another...

5 months post LAR / Mucus in stools

Hello all! I am 5 months post LAR surgery. No ileostomy. I have been having mucus in stool for a month now. Over the phone my colorectal surgeons PA does not seemed concerned. Ordered stool test which came back normal, so no evidence of infection. The mucus is making me nuts. It’s enough to simply m...

Re: Follow-Up CT / Fatty Liver

Dave, Thank you for responding. Thankfully I have not had to have chemo following the location and pathology of My tumor. This scan feedback is just further affirmation of the importance of a clean diet, minimal or no red wine and lots of exercise. It has been difficult navigating a balance with the...

Follow-Up CT / Fatty Liver

Hi! I had a follow-up CT on Monday the 10th. Yesterday, I picked up the report to take with me to Atlanta next week when I see my colorectal surgeon. Therefore, I have not discussed the results with my oncologist. I see her on the 25th. Regretfully, I am working myself into a little bit of a tizzy.....

Re: Stage 4 for 4 years, looking for advice

Hi, Michelle! I do not have a lot of knowledge or first hand experience as I was just diagnosed and had LAR in September 2019. However, I have a son with severe handicaps due to a hypoxic brain injury at birth. He is totally dependent on others for his care. Your concern resonates with me. Just want...

Re: chemoradiation therapy for rectosigmoid

My adenocarcinoma was about 12cm from the anal verge. It was not recommended that I have treatment prior to LAR. I consulted with two surgeons. I chose a surgeon who specializes in colorectal procedures - That is all he does day in and day out. He did a flexible sigmoid procedure three days prior to...

Re: New member - scared & looking for tips

Those words...It is cancer...were the most daunting words I had ever heard...August 2019. I know now it is my life’s journey. One I would never have expected or have chosen. I will say there is such an abundance of HOPE! You have found an amazing resource of knowledge & support in this group. As...

Re: New member question: Puffy Stomach after surgery??

I had this very question in my mind but have not posted. I am twelve weeks post resection. I find my abdomen bloated, distended every few days. I am very tender on my left side between my drain scar and below navel. I have been contemplating messaging my surgeon as well but felt maybe I am overly an...

Re: CEA Confusion

I sincerely appreciate everyone’s input. The one thing I have found comforting in this support group is the honesty, knowledge & kindness. I hope to return that grace in some way. When I was debating wether to even ask or not, I knew I’d receive some insight. Thank you for sharing. I don’t need ...

CEA Confusion

In the grand scheme of things, this is just a curiosity question. Has anyone found that different labs reveal different CEA levels? I have had 4 levels drawn in three months due to visiting two surgeons in two states, plus a post resection draw and then a draw at my new oncologist. As follows: 8/26:...

Re: A freakin hernia now

Sending you an abundance of positive prayers. No advice to offer, just love & light. I am 9 weeks out from colon resection. I have a handicap son. It is so difficult to fight my natural instincts for his care and to rely on others.

Prayers for healing,
Lee

Re: I'm getting worried

I believe you would definitely have a more definitive response from you GI if there was anything indicating cancer. I know the wait is incredibly frustrating regardless. Just a little tid-bit...My brother had a colonoscopy the day before mine (8/14/2019). He had two polyps removed. I had my colonos...

Re: Upcoming Surgery

Yes, regretfully I was not highly impressed with the urologist. I felt my concerns were a bit dismissed. I will seek an additional referral if my bladder situation doesn’t improve. My colorectal surgeon is wonderful and is supporting me in every way possible post op. My surgery ended up being much m...

Re: Upcoming Surgery

Two weeks out from surgery. A question for you all: I continue to have unanticipated challenges with my bladder. I had my catheter removed last Wednesday. Since then, I am voiding but it takes effort to get a stream started and to fully void. The urologist I saw prescribed Flomax. He flippantly stat...
