Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

In 2006, I was diagnosed with what is now considered stage IIIC colon cancer. I've been NED for 14 years.

Re: Neuropathy- how long?

Hi Alessandria I finished my Folfox almost ten years ago and had fairly pronounced neuropathy in my hands and feet; I also experienced a 'zinging' sensation in my legs. If memory serves, I think I started experiencing the neuropathy around my sixth infusion and it increased thereafter. It was probab...

Re: Just diagnosed and hopeless

Hello TXLiz, As others have pointed out, you're not being a baby! Rather, you're going through a totally understandable reaction to an upsetting situation. I was in the same situation ten years ago when I too was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer - I also had two lymph nodes that tested positive...

Re: FOLFOX Cycle 11 complete . . . one more to go

Belated congratulations on getting disconnected from the bastard pump. Finishing cycle eleven is a huge milestone - only one more to go! Kudos to you. Also, remember that it's ok to feel down and weepy (at least that's what I told myself when I was having treatment and some days were a little harder...

Ten years after Stage III diagnosis

Hello, I’ve been hesitant to post as I’ve lost some good friends to cancer and I suppose I have ‘survivor’s guilt’. My survival, in my mind, is simply a matter of chance rather than courage, a fighting spirit, faith, or a totally changed lifestyle. That said, when I was first diagnosed with cancer I...

Re: Constant diarrhea, flatulence and stomachache

Hello, I'm sorry to hear that you're in such discomfort, feeling frustrated and depressed. When I was undergoing chemo I suffered terribly from diarrhoea and yes, it was awful. Eight years later, I still suffer from irritable bowels (likely due to the fact that I had 18 inches of my colon removed). ...

Re: Please help - unique situation

I hear you. I hated the fucking 5-FU pump too. Really, really hated it. What I ended up doing was buying a water bottle holder, something like this: http://www.chinatraderonline.com/wholesale-suppliers/Water-bottle-holder/ The water bottle holder, which I wore around my waist and covered with a shir...

Re: New Recruit

Hi Charlie, I can totally understand how your diagnosis has rattled you. I was diagnosed six years ago with a T4 tumour and two of my lymph nodes were involved. I underwent surgery (had 18 inches of my colon removed) and followed up with seven months of chemo (I had to postpone my chemo twice due to...

Re: dose reduction

Hi Jenny, From what I've read and heard, I don't think that it's uncommon to have one's dose reduced. Due to blood cell and platelet counts, I had my dose reduced twice (treatments were also postponed twice). If memory serves, I had both the oxaliplatin and the 5-FU reduced by a total of 30%. When I...

Re: Experiences of those who are using Avastin as Maintenanc

Hello, I'm sorry to meet you under these circumstances, but I'm happy that you found this forum (it's a wonderful resource!). I don't have the answers to many of your questions (however, I think that the outcomes of various treatments varies widely from person to person), but I'm bumping this post i...

Re: Long term survival

Hello, welcome to the forum, though I'm very sorry to hear about your Mum. I have a friend who was diagnosed with colon cancer a month after I was. He was classified as stage IV as he had metastasis to his liver. As with your mother, his liver was operated on. Due to a bad reaction he was only able ...

Re: New, recently diagnosed and a million questions

I know you didn't mean to upset me. I'm just scared in general and ultra sensitive about everything right now. I can't talk to anyone about it face to face without falling apart. I've never been one to cry over every little thing, so it is very embarassing. It has been a frustrating week. Still hav...

Re: do your pets help?

Great post. And, to answer to your question, Good god, yes! My cat companions made me feel "normal" when I was undergoing treatment. Frankly, they didn't take it easy on me, and were just as demanding as ever. No pussy-footing around. Oddly, I found a lot of comfort in their behaviour, as,...

Re: Low Platelet Count

Today my seventh chemo session was postponed because my platelet count was down a hundred points from my last treatment. Speculation is that the Oxalyplatin dose needs adjusting. During my last treatment I developed a severe itch that was quelled with Benadryl. Could this reaction mean that the Oxa...
