Re: Newly diagnosed rectal cancer

Time sure Is flying... I can hardly focus on holidays ! Better get my act together. My shedding skin and cracking feet have improved with liberal use of Udderly Smooth cream. Went for a peripheral neuropathy massage yesterday, which was actually pretty helpful for pain and tingling in my fee...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectal cancer

For protein, you might consider plant-based protein. There are protein supplements, typically based on Pea Protein these days. It was based on soy in the past. Rob's Red Mill makes protein powders that you can use for shakes or baking. I'm using lotion on my hands myself as my fingertips are very d...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectal cancer

This winter weather is doing a number on my dry skin. I want to blame it all on the weather but it could be something to do with treatment. My hands are so dry and my fingertips have sore places as well as my tongue. It feels like when I was in treatment and I needed the magic mouthwash. I've gone b...

Yay! I’m glad you didn’t have a bad reaction to the contrast! I’m sorry you have to wait on results. That’s the hardest part.

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

A fitness tracker is helpful during these times as you can see what you did the past day, week, month or year. And these things often nag you to do something during the day. I can go back and look at what I did a couple of years ago before and after surgery and it reminds me to do better throughout...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectal cancer

I use iCloud notes for recording things. Notes sync between my computer, iPhone and iPad. There are similar apps for Android and there are third party apps like One-Note, Evernote and so on. So you can record it on one device and it shows up on all your other devices. I have an iPhone and iPad. And...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectal cancer

You guys are making me hungry for cottage cheese. That used to be a favorite for me, but it just doesn't exist in Germany. Adding it to the list of things to eat next week!

I’m glad you’ll be in the land of cottage cheese next week. Enjoy!

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

My surgeon told me that it was her decision during the surgery whether it would be a permanent colostomy or not. So I had to be prepared for that. I knew about the ileostomy (as that's what they do if you don't have a permanent colostomy), but I didn't realize the impact that it would have on my li...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectal cancer

I had a lot of skin changes with chemo. My toes and fingers got really dark, especially on the back. I had brown spots on my face and some other areas too. The brown color eventually went away after chemo though some of the spots remain. I'm glad to know it's not just me. I noticed my face has a lo...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectal cancer

I have to take Imodium and fiber for bathroom issues. I try staying on BRAT diet mostly. Sometimes I have no idea why one day is better than another. Are you still on the BRAT diet Sue? I was on it for so long and was afraid to deviate from it but all of a sudden I think I have gone the other way. ...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectal cancer

Slowly but surely, I'm feeling better. I had an appointment yesterday and realized that I could sit in the chair in the waiting room without wincing. I still tend to sit on one side or the other but at least I sat down instead of standing like I had been doing. And it was really nice when they told ...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

The surgeon told me that a colostomy is always an option and offered a recent patient to talk to but I told her that I can chat with lots of people that have them, that are considering them and that don't have them. I kind of get the feeling that the majority of cancer patients don't use forums for...

Re: Diagnosed while working abroad

Thanks everyone for your responses. This will be my last week of pCR. Thursday is a holiday, so it's actually only 4 trips to the Rad clinic, but I have to keep taking the Xeloda through Friday. I know I won't feel better immediately. I already get weekends off from radiation, and Sunday is usually...
