Re: rectal spasms - tenesmus?

My mom had rectal spasms from radiation. She had the continual urge to go and alot of pain. We were prescribed proctofoam. It is injected and immediately relieves spasm. I don't know how she would have made it through without it.

Re: NBC sets Farrah Fawcett cancer show May 15 at 9 p.m

okay, I'm confused. Is Anal Cancer different from Rectal Cancer? It was posted in this thread that "She does have anal cancer, which is different from colon or rectal cancer." Mom had stage II Rectal Cancer, this kind - Squamous cell carcinoma. Is it Rectal Cancer, Anal Cancer or are they ...

Re: quick Bradyr update

Sharon, I don't think I would have made it through last summer without the online help, encouragement and support from Brady. He was God Sent. One way he helped us was by recommending certain pain meds to control Mom's pain, what she was taking wasn't working. I'm not sure the doctors would have eve...

Re: hair falling out?

My mom's doctor said that her hair would not fall out, only thin. I think it was a couple of weeks after her first chemo treatment, she woke up to find hair on her pillow. From that point on, she shed constantly. It was worse when she washed her hair but from the point it started falling out, hair w...

Re: Extremely Frustrated

just wanted to respond about the endless waiting, I can definitely relate. Waiting for answers from doctors, labs, etc... When mom had her first colonoscopy, I think the first of April. They told her, they found a tumor and it was cancer. And left it at that until they could pencil her in with her o...

Hello

it's really been a while since I've checked in here. Mom's healing up from treatment and I've jumped back into my family, job, and life. She had a PET Scan and we met with the doctor on Tues. He showed us the before and after pics. You could really see the tumor from the pics in April and then absol...

Hello, haven't posted in a while. Mom has finished chemo and radiation (yep, all 33 radiation treatments). It's going on 3 weeks tomorrow since her last radiation treatment and her last chemo treatment was well over 1 month ago. She is healing up on the outside and the pain mainly from radiation is ...

Re: Bad Nights

Hi Bradyr, Mom is still in the hospital. She's so much better than last Friday but still is running a low grade fever. The docs don't want to send her home until there's no more fever. She's completed 30 of 33 hits of radiation. Obviously, everything is burnt, raw and inflamed. Instead of infection,...

Re: Collar bone pain - could it be port problem?

Hi Belle, Although PICC not same as port, mom had pain from her PICC. She said that it felt like she couldn't lift her arm it hurt so bad. I'm not sure why or what but it went away. She had that same shot for white blood cells on a Friday. The weekend that followed was pretty rough. I hope you get r...

In the Hosptial

Mom's been in hospital since Friday. Safety net feels good. Think everything is going well. She's continued to run fever of 100 to 102. Blood Pressure 105/46 at 5:00 today, pulse tonight 110. She's had 4 units blood (think red blood cells, not sure) on Saturday. Urine specimens and blood tests have ...

Re: Bad Nights

Friend just called and said that doctor said that she needs some red blood cells and that they'd be coming to the room to give her that shortly. Is that a blood transfusion?

Re: Bad Nights

She was admitted to the hospital yesterday morning. Basically, we went to the treatment center yesterday morning to get PICC line flushed, weekly thing. On the other side of the treatment room away from mom, I had a break down moment saying the upcoming weekend scares me to death, it's like the nigh...

Re: Bad Nights

About the swelling, if it were an ankle I'd elevate it and ice it. Elevation is not possible, but should I keep ice on it?
