Just watched “First Man.” As soon as I heard the Theremin in the soundtrack, I thought of yours.

Reading around, it seems Neil Armstrong was a fan of the Theremin. So you have that in common with him!

Re: Para-aortic node recurrence

I also have no experience with lymph node issues, but agree this is a tricky/frustrating decision. One issue is that oxaliplatin is pretty damaging stuff, and only adds a few extra percent survival to plain chemo (like 5fu/xeloda). Overdoing it can limit one’s options in the future — it can clobber ...

Re: Stage IV With Liver Mets

I can sympathize with the shock of going from Stage 3 to Stage 4 so quickly. I went from 2 to 4 in 5 months, which surprised my first doctor, who did not expect that to happen so fast. Then I transferred to a major cancer center, where such things don’t surprise them. They have a lot more experience...

Re: Please allow me to introduce myself

Been a while, so a quick update. Unfortunately, the Nov. CT scan showed a new tumor in the liver, high up on the left side, in an area that I think had not been irradiated before. CEA and CA19-9 both went up too. So, Lonsurf has been deemed a failure. My doctor proposed trying a technique for which ...

Re: Folfiri and Nausea

FOLFIRI was much worse for me than FOLFOX. Emend helped. Also had dexamethasone for first couple of days. This combo generally worked well enough to keep me from throwing up, though the dexamethasone gave me hiccups. Besides nausea, though, FOLFIRI generally left me feeling crappy and listless for a...

Re: Colon Cancer Research Project

Ok, let me take a stab at some answers: 1. Your nutritional habits up to diagnosis and your personal feelings on it's significance to your current diagnosis Nutritional habits: mixed Western and Japanese diet, probably not the healthiest, but not the worst either. Probably drank a bit more than I sh...

Re: What is radiation/chemo treatment actually like?

Others have discussed the mechanics of radiation, which can vary but should be broadly similar. I had a full dose (60 Gy) of pelvic radiation (x/gamma), and had absolutely no side effects until a couple of days after the last dose, when I suddenly developed intolerable abdominal pain and uncontrolla...
