Curious on attitude towards future

So, my treatment has been going well. Latest scans showed little activity. Went ahead with 5 weeks of radiation with capecitebine to clean up. Rescan end of Oct. I don't know how to react. Do I proceed with life like I don't have this axe over my head? Consider getting married? Look for career advan...

Longer term lodgings in Rochester, MN

Just had a pretty encouraging visit to Mayo. CT still shows the enlarged problem nodes, and I've developed an incisional hernia, but the PET scan showed NO areas of uptake. We're stopping chemo and I'll be starting a 5 week course of radiation at Mayo in the next couple weeks. They're trying to get ...

Re: Girlfriend wants to come to appointments

Thank you all for your thoughts, sincerely. In the end I did bring Laura along on this trip to Mayo, and it went very well. Am very glad she was here. Certainly doesn't hurt that most everything we heard was good news. Hot spot lymph nodes are still enlarged on CT scan as expected, but nothing new. ...

Re: Tea, and other warm beverages while on FOLFOX

I drank so much hot black tea during my run with CAPOX that I can no longer stand it. Used to enjoy a variety of flavors, family sent me tons I'd never tried before while I was going through it. Literally gave away my kettle and all the tea I had left. Really hoping I don't have more OX in my future...

Re: Girlfriend wants to come to appointments

As of today, Rochester is allowing one person to accompany to the outpatient clinic. Obviously this could change. In that case, dilemma resolved. https://www.mayoclinic.org/covid-19/rochester I'm more concerned of how she'll react if I get bad news. She says she'll be prepared and knows that's a rea...

Girlfriend wants to come to appointments

Hey all, looking for knowledge/experience/insights for a conversation I'll be having tonight with my girlfriend of 9 months. We met well into my cancer fight and she's been very supportive, incredible really to take on a new relationship with someone with stage 4 cancer. Since we've been together my...

Re: Mop up chemo - Port vs non-port for Oxi?

I had several rounds of oxaliplatin through my arm and would not recommend it. It's nasty stuff which will chemically burn the veins in your arm. With a port it goes in a much larger blood vessel and so is diluted much quicker avoiding this damage. Any error in placing the iv or if it withdraws duri...

Re: HELP. Mother’s treatment wrong?

Regarding the lymph node count - while scans may indicate some nodes as being suspicious, the surgeon is going to basically take every single one he can find in the area during surgery. During my bowel resection they took out 37. Can't stage the disease until the lymph nodes have been tested. That's...

Thoughts on attending a funeral?

Hi there, new to the forum. I have a decision to make and could use some thoughtful input. I'm 40 yrs old currently in treatment for stage 4. Originally diagnosed Oct. '17, after bowel resection and 8 rounds of chemo I got 4 months of NED before they found it in my liver. Am two months post liver re...
